You pay by the hour for Docker CE running on Ubuntu 22.04, billed only for the time your instance runs. Pricing is not tiered by features. Instead, each dimension maps to a specific AWS EC2 instance type, so your rate depends on the instance size and family you pick. Options range from small burstable instances like t3.nano to large memory, compute, storage, and GPU or accelerator instances such as x1e.32xlarge and p5.48xlarge. Larger or more specialized instances carry higher hourly rates. The software is the same across all instances; you choose the hardware that fits your workload.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
What do I actually get for the hourly rate on each instance dimension?
Each dimension maps to one running AWS EC2 instance of that type, with Docker CE preinstalled on Ubuntu 22.04. The rate covers the software license for one instance-hour. Your chosen instance size sets the CPU, memory, storage, and any GPU or accelerator you receive.
Am I charged the hourly software rate when my instance is stopped?
The software rate meters running time only. A fully stopped instance does not accrue the hourly software charge. Note that stopped instances can still incur underlying AWS storage fees for attached volumes, which are separate from this listing's software charge.
If I switch to a larger instance type, does my whole bill change or just the extra capacity?
You pay the hourly rate tied to whichever instance type is currently running. Switching to a different type replaces the old rate entirely; there is no blended or partial charge. The change takes effect when you launch the new instance, and you stop paying the old rate once that instance stops.
