Deploy Your Own VoIP PBX on AWS in Minutes

FreePBX 17, supported by Solve DevOps, gives IT administrators at small and mid-sized businesses a production-ready IP-PBX on AWS with a streamlined one-click deployment. Take full control of your business phone system without the recurring costs of hosted PBX services.

    What Is FreePBX?

FreePBX is an open-source web-based interface for managing Asterisk, the industry-standard VoIP private branch exchange (PBX) server. FreePBX 17 delivers an intuitive graphical interface, enhanced security, and extensibility for modern business communications.

    Who Is This For?

This AMI is built for IT managers and system administrators at organizations with 10 to 200 extensions who need to:

    • Replace expensive hosted PBX services with a self-managed solution
    • Interconnect branch offices and remote workers onto a unified voice platform
    • Deploy call center queues, IVR menus, conferencing, and voicemail
    • Maintain full ownership of call data and recordings for compliance

Example Use Case: A 50-seat professional services firm connects three branch offices and remote workers using softphones. Inbound calls route through a multi-level IVR to department queues, with call recording enabled for compliance. The IT team manages the entire system through the FreePBX WebGUI without vendor lock-in.

    Key Capabilities

    • Point-and-Click WebGUI - Manage extensions, ring groups, IVR trees, and call routing from any browser without command-line expertise.
    • Broad Phone Compatibility - Works with Cisco, Avaya, Polycom, Yealink, and popular softphones including Zoiper and Linphone.
    • Sangoma Commercial Plugin Support - Expand functionality with advanced modules for endpoint management, call center wallboards, and more.
    • Simple Backup and Restore - Built-in backup module lets you schedule automated backups and restore configurations with a few clicks.
    • Hassle-Free Upgrades - Stay current with the latest features and security patches through the integrated module update system.

    Security and Hardening

This image ships with multiple layers of protection pre-configured:

    • Pre-configured Firewall - Responsive firewall restricts access to SIP, HTTP, and SSH ports, blocking unauthorized traffic by default.
    • Fail2ban Integration - Automatically bans IP addresses after repeated failed authentication attempts, protecting against SIP brute-force attacks.
    • Debian Hardened Base - Built on Debian with unnecessary services disabled and the latest security patches applied at image build time.
    • HTTPS for WebGUI - TLS encryption available for administrative access to prevent credential interception.
    • Regular Patching - Image updated with CVE patches from upstream vendors on a recurring basis.

Note: This product contains the latest patched software from respective vendors. We do not claim that all vulnerabilities have been addressed.

     Info

    Dimensions summary

You pay by the hour for the EC2 instance type you choose to run this VoIP PBX server. The software itself carries no separate license fee; billing follows your selected instance. The many dimensions are AWS instance sizes across several families, including general-purpose (t2, t3, t3a, m4, m5 and variants) and memory-optimized (r5, r6, and variants). Larger instances with more CPU and memory cost more per hour. Small burstable options like t3a.nano suit light testing. Metal and 32xlarge/48xlarge sizes fit heavy call volumes. Pick the size that matches your expected extensions and traffic.

    Top-of-mind questions for buyers

You get a running EC2 instance of the size you select, with the CPU, memory, and storage tied to that instance type. The FreePBX software comes pre-configured and production-ready on the instance. Your hourly charge covers the instance running the VoIP PBX server; you manage the underlying compute size.
Hourly software charges accrue only while the instance runs. If you stop the instance, the per-hour software charge stops. Note that AWS may still bill for attached storage and other resources while stopped. Restarting the instance resumes the hourly charge.
The hourly charge covers the pre-configured FreePBX cloud image running on your instance. Support is not billed through these instance-hour dimensions. The software is open-source and provided as-is. For hands-on help, you would arrange support separately with the provider.
