SUSE Linux Enterprise (SLE) Micro is a lightweight and secure OS platform purpose-built for containerized workloads. (No EMEA Orders) It is well suited for any decentralized computing environment such as edge, embedded or IoT deployment without vendor lock-in.
SUSE Linux Enterprise Micro leverages the enterprise-hardened technology components of SUSE Linux Enterprise and merges that with what developers want from a modern, secure, immutable OS platform. As a result, you get an ultra-reliable infrastructure platform that is also simple to use and comes out-of-the-box with best-in-class compliance.
Highlights
Immutable OS. Immutable design ensures the OS is not altered during runtime and runs reliably every single time. Security signed and verified transactional updates are easy to rollback if things go wrong.
Perfect for Containers and Kubernetes. You can easily combine SLE Micro with the latest cloud-native technologies including Rancher, RKE, Longhorn persistent block storage, and K3S, the world's most popular Kubernetes distribution for use in low resource, distributed edge locations.
Low maintenance. SLE Micro with its small footprint and modular architecture makes it easy to customize, build images, configure, deploy, update, and automate. So, all routine maintenance functions like patches, updates, config changes are seamless.
AWS Marketplace now accepts line of credit payments through the PNC Vendor Finance program. This program is available to select AWS customers in the US, excluding NV, NC, ND, TN, & VT.
Pricing is based on actual usage, with charges varying according to how much you consume. Subscriptions have no end date and may be canceled any time. Alternatively, you can pay upfront for a contract, which typically covers your anticipated usage for the contract duration. Any usage beyond contract will incur additional usage-based costs.
Additional AWS infrastructure costs may apply. Use the AWS Pricing Calculator to estimate your infrastructure costs.
You pay by the hour for each running instance, with no upfront commitment. Pricing attaches to the AWS Arm-based (arm64) instance type you choose. The listing covers many instance families, including general-purpose (m-series, a1, t4g), compute-optimized (c-series), memory-optimized (r-series, x-series), and storage- or I/O-focused (i-series, im4gn, is4gen) options, plus graphics (g5g) and HPC (hpc7g) types. Within each family, the hourly rate scales with instance size, from medium up through 48xlarge and bare-metal variants. You select the size that matches your workload and are billed only for the hours you run.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
Am I charged when an instance is stopped or paused?
Software charges meter only running instance-hours. A stopped instance stops accruing the per-hour software charge. You may still pay underlying AWS fees for attached storage and reserved resources, but the SUSE Linux Enterprise Micro software charge applies only while the instance runs.
What does the hourly rate actually cover for this operating system?
The rate covers the SUSE Linux Enterprise Micro software running on one Arm-based instance. It bills per instance-hour tied to the instance type you launch. Larger instance sizes and bare-metal variants carry higher hourly rates, reflecting the compute resources each type provides.
What support or patching is included with this hourly software charge?
SUSE Linux Enterprise Micro is an immutable host with transactional updates and Live Patching support. The hourly charge covers the software itself. Extended support beyond the general support period, such as Long Term Service Pack Support, is a separate SUSE offering, not part of this hourly listing.

An AMI is a virtual image that provides the information required to launch an instance. Amazon EC2 (Elastic Compute Cloud) instances are virtual servers on which you can run your applications and workloads, offering varying combinations of CPU, memory, storage, and networking resources. You can launch as many instances from as many different AMIs as you need.
Use the image to start an instance of your choice in Amazon EC2. Once the instance is running connect to it using a Secure Shell (SSH) client as 'suse' and the configured SSH key. The instance is connected to the SUSE update infrastructure to receive updates. Use the transactional-update command to update the system or install additional packages.
In order to provide you with support for your SLE Micro instance, you need to first generate and upload your instance's supportconfig file. See the Marketplace Support Page in SUSE Customer Center for more information on how to create a supportconfig file and follow the prompts.
