SUSE Linux Enterprise (SLE) Micro is a lightweight and secure OS platform purpose-built for containerized workloads. (No EMEA Orders) It is well suited for any decentralized computing environment such as edge, embedded or IoT deployment without vendor lock-in.
SUSE Linux Enterprise Micro leverages the enterprise-hardened technology components of SUSE Linux Enterprise and merges that with what developers want from a modern, secure, immutable OS platform. As a result, you get an ultra-reliable infrastructure platform that is also simple to use and comes out-of-the-box with best-in-class compliance.
Highlights
Immutable OS. Immutable design ensures the OS is not altered during runtime and runs reliably every single time. Security signed and verified transactional updates are easy to rollback if things go wrong.
Perfect for Containers and Kubernetes. You can easily combine SLE Micro with the latest cloud-native technologies including Rancher, RKE, Longhorn persistent block storage, and K3S, the world's most popular Kubernetes distribution for use in low resource, distributed edge locations.
Low maintenance. SLE Micro with its small footprint and modular architecture makes it easy to customize, build images, configure, deploy, update, and automate. So, all routine maintenance functions like patches, updates, config changes are seamless.
AWS Marketplace now accepts line of credit payments through the PNC Vendor Finance program. This program is available to select AWS customers in the US, excluding NV, NC, ND, TN, & VT.
Pricing is based on actual usage, with charges varying according to how much you consume. Subscriptions have no end date and may be canceled any time. Alternatively, you can pay upfront for a contract, which typically covers your anticipated usage for the contract duration. Any usage beyond contract will incur additional usage-based costs.
Additional AWS infrastructure costs may apply. Use the AWS Pricing Calculator to estimate your infrastructure costs.
You pay by the hour for each running instance, with no upfront commitment. Pricing attaches to the ARM64 (Arm 64-bit) EC2 instance type you choose, so the hourly software rate scales with the size and family of the instance. Options span general-purpose, compute-optimized, memory-optimized, storage-optimized, graphics, and high-performance families. Within each family, rates rise as you move from smaller sizes (medium, large) to larger ones (up to 48xlarge and bare-metal variants). You select the instance type that fits your workload, and billing follows your actual usage hours.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
Am I charged the software rate when an instance is stopped or paused?
The hourly software rate meters running time only. A fully stopped instance does not accrue software charges. You may still pay underlying AWS fees for attached storage while the instance is stopped, but the software license bills only the hours the instance runs.
What does the hourly rate actually cover, and what runs on each instance?
The rate covers the SUSE Linux Enterprise Micro 5 operating system license for one running ARM64 instance. It is a lightweight host for containerized and virtual workloads. The rate applies per instance-hour and includes vendor support for the OS. AWS compute and storage are billed separately by AWS.
How does my bill change if I run several instances of different sizes at once?
Each running instance bills independently at its own hourly rate, set by its instance type and size. The charges add together on one invoice. Running more instances, or larger families and sizes, raises the total. Your bill follows the combined running hours across all active instances.

An AMI is a virtual image that provides the information required to launch an instance. Amazon EC2 (Elastic Compute Cloud) instances are virtual servers on which you can run your applications and workloads, offering varying combinations of CPU, memory, storage, and networking resources. You can launch as many instances from as many different AMIs as you need.
Use the image to start an instance of your choice in Amazon EC2. Once the instance is running connect to it using a Secure Shell (SSH) client as 'suse' and the configured SSH key. The instance is connected to the SUSE update infrastructure to receive updates. Use the transactional-update command to update the system or install additional packages.
In order to provide you with support for your SLE Micro instance, you need to first generate and upload your instance's supportconfig file. See the Marketplace Support Page in SUSE Customer Center for more information on how to create a supportconfig file and follow the prompts.
AWS infrastructure support
AWS Support is a one-on-one, fast-response support channel that is staffed 24x7x365 with experienced and technical support engineers. The service helps customers of all sizes and technical abilities to successfully utilize the products and features provided by Amazon Web Services.
