Managing classroom tablets has streamlined app access and protected students online
What is our primary use case?
My main use case for Jamf School is managing iPads in elementary school.
A quick specific example of how I use Jamf School to manage iPads is that when we receive new iPads, we use Jamf School to enroll these new iPads into the system, push applications so they are ready to use in the classrooms, and manage policies on the iPads to ensure that safe internet is active on them.
Additionally, there is the option for Jamf Class or Jamf Teacher, which gives teachers the ability to manage the classroom using Jamf School.
What is most valuable?
In my experience, the best features Jamf School offers include the seamless process of pushing apps and applying group policy for each device, as well as protecting students to be safe online.
The app deployment and group policy features stand out for me because it is easier to manage, as we do have many iPads and it is hard to manage them one by one. This gives us the opportunity to have more time for other tasks, making it faster to deal with using Jamf School.
Additionally, there is an option to manage Chromebooks by Jamf School, which we are still exploring, and it might be added later as it is in the roadmap.
Jamf School has positively impacted my organization by making students' lives easier. The learning progress is enhanced by using the apps they need at the time they need them, and it also makes teachers' lives easier to control and manage the iPads within the classroom, so it has a great impact on the academic level.
We are using a platform called Seesaw, where students use their iPads to take pictures, photos, create content, and share these contents with their parents, which is truly amazing to see as an outcome for the students' activity during the day and to share it with their parents at home.
What needs improvement?
I would love to see some features in Jamf School that allow you to block websites by keywords, as this is not yet available. We keep asking for this feature because it would be easier to manage blocking websites by keyword, as it is currently done by the website's URL.
If Jamf School adds more control over Chromebooks, that would be great, especially because we do have another platform to manage Chromebooks, so that would be beneficial.
Regarding Jamf School's AI capabilities, I think it is new, and we are still working on it. I would love to see the full capability of using Jamf School AI.
In terms of accuracy and reliability of output, I believe it is more accurate over time, and most of the security concerns related to AI will be addressed over time in Jamf School.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using Jamf School for more than five years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
Jamf School is stable, with very rare occurrences of downtime for the server or the service.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
In terms of scalability, it is scalable.
How are customer service and support?
We rely on third-party customer support, which is very good. However, my only concern with the direct customer support is that it is only by email, and the email can take up to two days, meaning sometimes in emergencies, you need a quick response.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
I previously used a platform called AirWatch, but it was not designed mainly for Apple devices, and it was hard to manage. We had to add other layers in the middle to manage all the deployment and the setup, which is why we switched to Jamf School, as they are dedicated to managing Apple devices.
What was our ROI?
By saving on management, we are saving more employees to handle the process, making it a return on investment for us.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
My experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing shows that it is a bit high, but it is worth the cost.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
Before choosing Jamf School, I evaluated other options such as MDM solutions, including Mosyle, which was a free open source option, but it was not capable of managing all the processes we are handling right now. We chose Jamf School as it is more powerful.
What other advice do I have?
My advice for others looking into using Jamf School is that if they are natively Apple, they can choose Jamf School, as there is no more powerful tool in the market than Jamf School for managing Apple devices in classrooms.
I recommend Jamf School for education if the platform is Apple. I would rate this product an eight out of ten.
Centralized classroom management has created secure, focused digital learning with zero-touch updates
What is our primary use case?
My main use case for Jamf School is managing devices in our classrooms. I was a campus tech at one point and we used it to help deploy software to our different devices, control where the devices were, and keep track of them. Because we are an iPad and Mac school district, we used Jamf School for device management, classroom management, and some student tools.
In the classroom, we used Jamf School to manage activities that the students were doing to keep them focused and engaged. We would use it to build a classroom for them so the teacher could control what they were doing on their iPads, watch them, engage with them, and work with them as they processed through the different steps that were assigned to them.
In addition to my main use case with Jamf School, we also used it for device management to remotely manage their apps, do updates on all of the Apple devices in the classroom, make sure that everybody was kept up to date, and keep track of where they were.
What is most valuable?
The best features Jamf School offers include the security that it provides and the ease of use of the classroom management, device management, and even deployment when we were doing enrollment and setup of the different devices. All of those things worked together really well.
Regarding the security features I found valuable in Jamf School, we appreciated the security features in regard to what we could enforce for configuring the different profiles on the different devices that we controlled in Jamf School. It allowed us to restrict certain uses and ensure that it was always on a secure Wi-Fi connection and that the end users were not getting to things they were not supposed to. We also had features of being able to set lockdown devices and restrict specific apps. Especially while we were doing state testing with iPads, it was very helpful because we could lock it down to certain features that we would use. Everything was encrypted, so we did not have any issues with concerns about privacy or security.
Jamf School has positively impacted my organization by reducing the hands-on touch of all the devices in all the classrooms. It allows our instructional capabilities for our teachers to do more because we are required to get information out to the students. They have to use certain software programs, and sometimes it is tough for some teachers to be hands-on in a classroom full of twenty-five iPads to ensure that the kids are on the right things. Using Jamf School, we were able to do that from a different level where they did not have to. It was what we called zero-touch deployment. From our side, we took care of it, and then nobody had to touch those iPads. As long as they were powered on, we could do that. We could even do some basic troubleshooting and different initiatives that we wanted to accomplish. It just made a possibility of digital classrooms. We were sure it was safe, we were sure that they could get the kids focused, and it gave them a more efficient learning space for the students to give them exactly the educational apps that they really needed when they needed them, and being able to keep them safe from any online risk of getting outside of anything that was not approved by it. It took the guesswork out of the devices for our staff and allowed the IT team to manage that and take that load off of the teacher's shoulders. It became more of an asset in the classroom, especially as we put in the initiative of no cell phones in the classroom, but this gave the kids the opportunity to still use technology but in a controlled manner, which was very important, especially nowadays.
What needs improvement?
Jamf School is so easy to use. Perhaps because I have been in the technology field for so long, it did not take a lot of training, and the training that Jamf does is amazing. The documentation and behind-the-scenes support is great. There is not really much I would say I would want to see improved.
If I had to think of even a small area where Jamf School could be improved, I think some of our more experienced users that know how to do custom scripting would appreciate it because we do have techs that also use Jamf Pro that get to that custom scripting, and sometimes in Jamf School, there is not really that same layer. If there was something they could do a little bit more to allow those that do have the capabilities to do some of that, that might be useful. It is also that Jamf School is mostly an Apple-first platform, but as our campuses are growing and more Chromebooks are becoming available, it would be nice if Jamf School was as good with the other platforms versus just Apple products.
Regarding app requests within Jamf School, I would appreciate it if there was something in there that would make it easier for the teachers to request apps more effortlessly. Instead of back-and-forth emails, if there was a direct feature for a teacher's app request, it would help. We have not really used that very much. Teachers can browse it, and maybe we are just not using it to the greatest ability, but as long as that app request feature was very easy for teachers to use, we would get more app requests quickly instead of them having to create help tickets.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been working in my current field for eighteen years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
Jamf School is stable.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
Regarding Jamf School's scalability, as our district continues to grow, the endpoints continue to grow, and the scalability has not really been negative. It has been very steady. It is built on an enterprise level, so it does not require us to get any additional hardware or anything, and our provisioning does not really change. Since it is distributed through our servers, we are not really having to spend any extra money as we continue to grow. The main thing is making sure that we are limiting the size of what we are pushing out for packages, but other than that, we have not seen any problems with it.
How are customer service and support?
The customer support for Jamf School is excellent.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
Before using Jamf School, we tried using MDM managing devices. We had Google Classroom we tried at one time. We tried Apple Classroom. We decided to switch to Jamf many years ago because the district was getting so large so fast, and we needed something more controllable. We needed something that we could get decent, good training with that would be reliable for our tech team to use. That was the reason we decided to go with Jamf. We started out with Jamf Pro and then eventually went down to Jamf School.
What was our ROI?
I have seen a return on investment from Jamf School. The return has been worth anything I have ever heard. We did not really get rid of any employees because of it, but it did allow our techs to not have to spend as much time in every single classroom touching every single iPad to update every iPad. If I could put it into a metric, I would say easily we save per campus tech over ten to fifteen hours a week just in maintenance, but not every single week. So let us round it to about forty hours a month saved in time that we have seen so far.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
Before choosing Jamf School, we did not evaluate other options. As soon as we were with Jamf Pro to start with, with some of our higher-up level capabilities, as soon as we found Jamf School, there was no question. Nobody else needed to be researched because we knew that it would be a great product.
What other advice do I have?
Regarding specific outcomes or metrics from using Jamf School, we absolutely saw fewer tickets and time saved because we are not having to have a campus tech go into every single classroom on the campus and touch twenty-five iPads per classroom to make sure that the updates were done. We were able to track down devices faster if they went off of our network and showed up. If an iPad was stolen and taken home, we would be able to lock that down so that once it hit a network at somebody else's house, we would lock it and make it a brick so they could not use it, which prevented some loss. That helped. Having teachers not having to touch things and giving the teachers the ability to lock student screens when there was some acting up saved time of trying to pick everything up and do all that. It was really cost-effective. I wish I could put it into numbers how much time we actually saved, but the saving grace of not having so many tickets of "I need this app installed on iPad one and iPad seven and iPad eight" was significant. We were able to do that much faster. It centralized that. Having that control panel allowed our Apple devices in the district to be maintained by IT and updates to thousands of devices instantly, which saved so much time for our techs.
My advice to others looking into using Jamf School is that the success of implementing it into your environment comes down to doing your prep work ahead of time. When looking to do it, ensure that you are doing things in the correct order and follow the suggestions of the Jamf implementation representatives. They are very good at giving the advice that you need on what to do to prep. Get prepared before you start so you are not spinning your wheels and wasting time once you have unboxed it. Because if you want to have a true zero-touch deployment so they can configure themselves out of the box, you need to have that preparation behind the scenes to get it ready. Also, know that the support that they provide and the training is great, and their customer support will back you up when you need that information. When you are giving this over to the teachers to use, the educators can use it on day one if you do the prep and the setup behind the scenes ready for them. It can cut your IT support tickets down a quarter to a half with those types of tickets if you do the preparation and set it up correctly. Do not just jump in both feet right ahead because it is there. Take the time to set it up correctly before you deploy it. I would rate my overall experience with Jamf School a nine out of ten.
Simple iPad management with Jamf School
Centralized iPad management has transformed student safety and classroom learning experiences
What is our primary use case?
We already have Jamf School and are managing all of our iPads, with approximately 300 iPads under management. We attempted to push the Classroom and Teacher apps, but the additional workload on teachers led them to delegate device management to the IT department while they focus on using the iPads themselves rather than managing Jamf Teacher. Since Jamf Teacher requires teachers to be outside the classroom, and our elementary school teachers observe everything happening in the room with the students, they do not need a tool to observe while inside with the children.
We use a platform called Seesaw while students use that app on their iPads. All work completed during the day and any activities are shared with parents at home, which provides an amazing reflection of what students are doing in class. Parents can see and interact with the content as well. Seesaw is used extensively on the iPads for all activities and sharing with parents, which has led us to receive many comments about how beautiful the learning experience parents are having with their children at school.
What is most valuable?
The most valuable features of Jamf School are exceptional, as it is amazing to manage the entire iPad fleet while pushing applications and controlling student safety, which is a concern we take seriously. Using Jamf Safe Internet was amazing for protecting children while they are online.
The apps provided certainly enhance learning, as they are essential tools for academic improvement. Jamf School's integration with educational platforms is amazing, as it matches all our requirements for safety, security, ease of use of applications, enhancing the students' lives and their experience along with teachers' learning and teaching.
It helps students not just with academic learning but also brings fun to the learning process. Our goal is to learn, explore, and have fun, which truly matches the goals we have established for our school community.
What needs improvement?
Similar to Jamf Protect , AI capabilities would be an amazing addition. Jamf Safe Internet also needs some improvement because it is very technical. We are currently blocking websites based on URLs, but it would be better to have an option to block websites based on keywords instead of URLs. While this is somewhat technical, having this capability would be better because it is always an issue to find a way to block sites based on keywords instead of URLs.
Regarding room for improvement, additional features such as AI capabilities and an improved blocking mechanism would be beneficial. Jamf School has the feature to support Chromebooks as well, but because of the limitation of keyword detection and blocking, we are not using it and instead use another tool. The Chromebook support is provided, and I have heard about Windows support as well, though I have not tried it yet. Perhaps next year I can explore it. Currently, we are using Jamf School with Apple devices only, specifically iPads.
For how long have I used the solution?
We started using Jamf School six years ago, and Jamf Pro has also been in use for six years. We added Jamf Protect two years after we started.
How are customer service and support?
The technical support is the same for Jamf Pro and Jamf Protect.
How was the initial setup?
We tried the over-the-air deployment feature, and we are managing all of the apps, pushing all apps over the air to the iPads. This is the beauty of using Jamf School, as pushing to the entire fleet means the app is there with no need to touch any individual iPad.
What other advice do I have?
We pay for the whole bundle within Jamf School, Pro, and Jamf Protect bundle as well, which is one bundle for all entire products. I doubt Jamf School is popular in my region, as we are one of the biggest places to use Mac in Egypt, so I doubt that Jamf products are popular here. Perhaps in the US, the UK, or Europe, but not in Egypt or even in the Middle East, as most organizations in these regions use Windows. My overall rating for this product is nine out of ten.
Automated device enrollment has transformed app testing and now saves significant setup time
What is our primary use case?
Jamf School serves as my MDM solution for managing iOS device testing and enterprise app development. It has been instrumental in helping me push internal builds, manage app configurations, Wi-Fi, and certificate profiles to test devices without manual setup.
For the payments SDK's flow, particularly Apple Pay and app switch scenarios, Jamf School has helped me validate how apps behave on supervised and managed devices where restrictions, VPN certificates, or app policies may affect the flow. This has been especially useful in testing certificate-based authentication, zero-touch device provisioning, and remote app updates.
I am using it directly in my project and interact with the public cloud-hosted environments for the APIs and tokenization services. As a developer, this helps me validate that the SDK communicates with the cloud-hosted backend. I am currently using it in the cloud-hosted environment only, but in my private project.
What is most valuable?
The best features that Jamf School offers are the enterprise restrictions, device wipe and re-enrollment scenarios, and app development at scale.
In my daily work, Jamf School has reduced the manual, repetitive device setup. Instead of configuring Wi-Fi certificates, VPN, app installs, and restrictions manually on every iPhone, the device is auto-enrolled with predefined policies. This has saved quality assurance and developer setup time, improved consistency across test devices, and helped reduce customer enterprise issues faster.
I find that the certificate profile updates, device trust, and VPN profile validation are a great combination.
What needs improvement?
I do not currently have a scale in which I have measured these parts, but I can tell you it has really saved a significant quantity of hours with onboarding speed and regression efficiency. I can say that Jamf School has achieved 70 to 90% time savings through automated enrollment and Wi-Fi certificates, which represents 90% less time on provisioning and ongoing device management.
If I provide a comparison, before Jamf School, manual device setup per device included app install time of three to five minutes, test enrollments of five minutes, and certificates altogether taking 20 minutes. After Jamf School, with automated policy and environment, the overall process can be completed in three to five minutes. I believe the speed is quite perfect. I do not think there is currently any improvement needed for this aspect. If I use it further in three to four months, I will be able to tell whether any improvement is required.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using Jamf School for the past two months.
How are customer service and support?
I think the documentation is also quite clear.
What other advice do I have?
I have used Jamf School in my current personal projects, not for my organization.
As I mentioned, it has really reduced the manual setup time and has enabled faster regression testing. Now, quality assurance and developer setup require less time because they can all auto-enroll in the predefined policies.
It has truly helped me. The amount of time it has reduced, for example, while I was making payments in iOS apps for Apple Pay , Venmo app switch certificate, or in enterprise restriction scenarios, Jamf School has reduced the time needed to prepare edge case devices, which directly improves the turnaround and issue reproduction speed.
I work extensively with the public cloud-hosted APIs and environments, so it involves my daily network. From my organization, if I check, my company basically uses the Microsoft enterprise infrastructure, which is likely the Microsoft Azure part.
