VICIdial® Contact Center on AWS - Tuned, CloudWatch & SSM Ready

     Info
    Deployed on AWS
This is a repackaged open source software product wherein additional charges apply for a fully built VICIdial contact-center stack with Asterisk, DAHDI and a tuned MariaDB, Amazon CloudWatch log and metric shipping, AWS Systems Manager integration, security hardening, and vendor support.

    Overview

VICIdial is an open-source contact center suite for inbound, outbound, and blended campaigns. Building it by hand takes hours of compiling Asterisk, DAHDI, and Perl modules. This AMI ships the entire stack pre-built, pre-configured, and integrated with AWS observability and management tooling so you can run a production contact center without the setup burden.

What is Included in This AMI

    • Full VICIdial Stack: VICIdial (astguiclient) installed with sample configuration, area-code data, crontab, and a vicidial systemd service (systemctl start/stop/restart vicidial.service)
    • Asterisk VICI Build: Compiled from source with all add-ons, apps, MeetMe, SRTP, and WebSocket support, plus core/extra sound packs and volume-normalized music on hold
    • DAHDI Kernel Modules: Built for the running kernel with kernel updates pinned so modules keep loading after patching
    • MariaDB Server: VICIdial schema pre-loaded with a tuned mariadb-server.cnf for optimized database performance
    • Apache and PHP 8.3: Tuned php.ini, recordings virtual directory, and a redirecting index page
    • Amazon CloudWatch Integration: Pre-configured agent ships Asterisk logs, VICIdial service logs, Apache access/error logs, MariaDB logs, system logs, and security logs to CloudWatch Logs. Publishes CPU, memory, disk, TCP-connection, and process metrics under the SolveDevOps/VICIdial namespace
    • AWS Systems Manager Integration: SSM agent installed and enabled for Session Manager shell access, Run Command, and patching - no need to open SSH to the internet
    • Per-Instance Security: First-boot script regenerates the Asterisk TLS key and certificate unique to each instance

    Security Hardening

    • Asterisk manager interface bound to 127.0.0.1 (localhost only)
    • Apache directory listing disabled
    • Key-only SSH access with no root password login
    • Self-signed TLS certificate regenerated per instance at first boot
    • No AWS credentials or CloudWatch region baked into the image
    • SRTP support compiled into Asterisk for encrypted voice communications
    • WebSocket support (TCP 8088/8089) for modern browser-based agent interfaces

Manage Inbound, Outbound, and Blended Campaigns

VICIdial provides a powerful web-based interface for managing all aspects of your contact center operations:

    • Inbound Campaigns: Route incoming calls to skilled agents with IVR menus and queue management
    • Outbound Campaigns: Run predictive, progressive, or manual dialing campaigns with lead list management and automated dispositioning
    • Blended Operations: Combine inbound and outbound workflows so agents handle both call types from a single interface
    • Multi-Channel: Manage calls, SMS, and email campaigns from one platform
    • Real-Time Reporting: Monitor agent activity, campaign performance, and call metrics through built-in analytics dashboards

    Getting Started

    1. Click "Continue to Subscribe" and accept the terms
    2. Launch the AMI using the AWS Marketplace or EC2 Launch Wizard
    3. Attach an IAM instance role with CloudWatchAgentServerPolicy and AmazonSSMManagedInstanceCore managed policies to activate CloudWatch and Systems Manager
    4. Open your security group for TCP 80/443 (web GUI), UDP 5060 (SIP), TCP 8088/8089 (Asterisk HTTP/WebSocket), and UDP 10000-20000 (RTP)
    5. Choose your instance type, configure storage and security groups, then launch

    Access Your Contact Center:

    • Web GUI: http://your-server-ip/vicidial/welcome.php  (Username: 6666, password retrieved via SSH)
    • SSH: Connect using your EC2 key pair as ec2-user
    • Session Manager: Access the instance shell through AWS Systems Manager without opening SSH

    Key Configuration Files:

    • /etc/astguiclient.conf
    • /etc/asterisk
    • /etc/my.cnf.d/mariadb-server.cnf
    • /etc/php.ini
    • CloudWatch config: /opt/aws/amazon-cloudwatch-agent/etc/amazon-cloudwatch-agent.d/vicidial.json

Full root access is provided for complete customization.

    AWS-Native Observability

Unlike a bare VICIdial install, this AMI integrates directly with AWS services from the start. CloudWatch captures application and system logs alongside host-level metrics, giving you centralized monitoring without additional tooling. Systems Manager provides secure shell access, remote command execution, and automated patching through the AWS console.

    Highlights

    • Complete VICIdial stack on one instance: Asterisk (VICI build) with DAHDI timing, MariaDB with a tuned configuration and pre-loaded schema, Apache with PHP 8.3, the VICIdial web GUI, cron jobs, sound packs, and a vicidial systemd service. Eliminates hours of manual compilation of Asterisk, DAHDI, and Perl modules. Supports inbound, outbound, and blended campaigns with SIP, SRTP, WebSocket, and MeetMe conferencing out of the box.
    • Security hardened and AWS-integrated from first boot: Asterisk manager interface bound to localhost only, self-signed TLS certificate regenerated per instance, Apache directory listing disabled, key-only SSH with no baked-in AWS credentials. Amazon CloudWatch agent ships Asterisk, VICIdial service, Apache, MariaDB, and system logs plus CPU, memory, disk, and TCP metrics. AWS Systems Manager agent enables Session Manager shell access, Run Command, and patching without opening SSH.
    • Full root access with production-ready defaults: DAHDI kernel modules built for the running kernel with kernel updates pinned so modules keep loading. MariaDB tuned via mariadb-server.cnf, PHP tuned via php.ini, recordings virtual directory configured, and an operational quick-start message of the day with the welcome URL, service commands, and documentation links. Attach an IAM role with CloudWatchAgentServerPolicy and AmazonSSMManagedInstanceCore to activate observability and management.

    Dimensions summary

You pay by the hour for this open-source contact center software, billed per running instance. Pricing is tied to the AWS EC2 instance type you select, so your hourly rate scales with the compute size you choose. The options span several instance families: general-purpose (t2, t3, m3, m4, m5), compute-optimized (c4, c5), memory-optimized (r4, r5), and storage-optimized (d2, d3). Within each family, sizes range from small to metal-level, letting you match capacity to your call center's workload. Larger instances carry higher hourly rates. You run only what you need and stop billing when you shut down.

    Top-of-mind questions for buyers

Each hourly rate maps to one running EC2 virtual machine of the size you select. The instance family and size set the CPU, memory, and storage profile. General-purpose, compute-optimized, memory-optimized, and storage-optimized families give different resource mixes. You pick the size that fits your call center's concurrent agent and call load.
The software rate meters only running time. When you stop the instance, the hourly software charge stops. You still pay AWS separately for storage attached to a stopped instance. To end all software charges, shut the instance down when it is not in use.
Your hourly rate changes to match the new instance type you launch. Larger sizes within a family carry higher hourly rates. The change is not automatic; you choose and start the new instance. The software is open-source, so you can scale the cluster to fit contact center demand.

    Amazon Machine Image (AMI)

An AMI is a virtual image that provides the information required to launch an instance. Amazon EC2 (Elastic Compute Cloud) instances are virtual servers on which you can run your applications and workloads, offering varying combinations of CPU, memory, storage, and networking resources. You can launch as many instances from as many different AMIs as you need.
