You pay by the hour for a preconfigured Redis image running on SUSE SLES 15. Pricing is set by the EC2 instance size you choose, not by tiers or feature levels. Seven instance options span three families: t3 general-purpose (medium, large, xlarge), m6i general-purpose (large, xlarge), and r6i memory-optimized (large, xlarge). Larger and memory-optimized sizes carry higher hourly rates because they provide more compute and memory. You are billed only while the instance runs, with no long-term commitment. Software charges are collected through AWS on top of standard EC2 infrastructure costs.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
What do I actually get with the hourly software charge on each instance?
You get a preconfigured Redis image running on SUSE SLES 15, ready to run on the EC2 instance size you pick. The image is prebuilt so you skip manual setup. The hourly rate covers this software; you also pay the underlying EC2 and storage costs separately.
Am I charged when the instance is stopped or not running?
No. You subscribe only for the time the image runs. If the instance is not running, there is no software charge. Note that stopped instances may still incur standard AWS storage fees for attached disks, but the Redis software meters running time only.
Does choosing a memory-optimized r6i instance change what Redis software I get versus a t3 instance?
No. The Redis on SUSE SLES 15 software is the same across all seven instance options. Your instance choice changes only compute and memory capacity, and the matching hourly rate. Memory-optimized r6i sizes suit larger in-memory datasets; t3 general-purpose sizes suit lighter workloads.

An AMI is a virtual image that provides the information required to launch an instance. Amazon EC2 (Elastic Compute Cloud) instances are virtual servers on which you can run your applications and workloads, offering varying combinations of CPU, memory, storage, and networking resources. You can launch as many instances from as many different AMIs as you need.
