Dimensions summary
You pay by the hour for CentOS 8 (Hardened) based on the AWS EC2 instance type you run. Each dimension maps to one instance size, so there are no plan tiers or feature levels to choose between. Pricing scales with the compute capacity of the instance you select. Smaller shared-core types like t2 and t3 cost less per hour, while larger compute, memory, storage, GPU, and bare-metal types cost more. You only pay for the hours each instance runs, and you can switch instance types as your needs change.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
Each hourly unit covers one running EC2 instance of the type you select. You are billed per hour for the software on that single instance. Running several instances means paying the hourly rate for each one. The rate reflects the compute, memory, or storage class of the instance type.
The software charge meters running time only. A fully stopped instance does not accrue the hourly software fee. You may still pay underlying AWS fees, such as storage for the attached volume, while the instance is stopped. Charges resume when you start the instance again.
You can switch instance types as needs change. Billing follows whichever type is running, so the hourly rate updates to match the new instance class. Larger compute, memory, storage, GPU, or bare-metal types bill at higher rates. Shared-core types like t2 and t3 bill at lower rates.
