What is our primary use case?
Catchpoint has enabled my organization's monitoring capabilities through the use of synthetic monitoring technologies to harness customer-facing performance metrics to help visualize and monitor application performance and drive indicators used to maintain SLA agreements with our customers.
A quick, specific example of how I use Catchpoint in my day-to-day work is that the tool has provided accurate and meaningful solutions used for making data-driven decisions based on captured metrics and results. Catchpoint is a solid product that provides meaningful, accurate data results from synthetic monitoring. Catchpoint as a vendor has acted as a reliable business partner and promotes a good relationship with customers and provides them with meaningful support. The support engineer and account manager make efforts to maintain a helpful relationship for services offered. Being able to work with us, provide input for code changes and enhancements for the payload used for synthetics has been valuable.
I also use Catchpoint's reliability measures to alert when problems may be starting. It helps to test across multiple web hosts and multiple environment endpoints in order to make sure that I am alerted if there is an issue with connectivity.
What is most valuable?
The best features Catchpoint offers include good fast response time on alerts, easy to manage test tree organization, and relatively straightforward test to step definition. Additionally, synthetic monitoring, reporting, and performance monitoring are valuable features.
Out of those features, I find myself relying on the use of synthetic monitoring technologies to harness customer-facing performance metrics to help visualize and monitor application performance the most, which has helped to drive indicators used to maintain SLA agreements with our customers.
Catchpoint has impacted my organization positively by providing a positive return on investment on proactive monitoring capabilities, adaptability, and being seen as a long-term solution regardless of changes made to the monitored environment. The technical support provided has been instrumental, and the ability to quickly dive into the test results detail has helped me get to the root cause of test failures quickly.
Specific outcomes or metrics that demonstrate the positive impact are that Catchpoint is not our only monitoring tool but is used for web properties. The test alerts raised by Catchpoint serve as a confirmation of possible outages or problems with an application. Catchpoint has helped to reduce false positive alerts, thus improving the response of the operation team so they do not have to spend time chasing ghosts. The response time has improved from thirty to fifty percent, and outages have also decreased from thirty to twenty percent.
What needs improvement?
Catchpoint can be improved by having the ability to monitor Catchpoint nodes with the ability to set up a take time recovery action based on specific criteria.
Sometimes it is difficult to investigate a single failed test run.
Another improvement needed is the flexibility of points usage, such as how some expire without rolling over.

Regarding pricing, setup cost, and licensing, I think for small organizations working on a tight budget, Catchpoint might be out of their budget. However, for medium to large enterprises, there is no problem. The cost is very effective and relatively competitive.

Catchpoint is also easy to log in to with SSO and easy to review the test runs over the last hour or a specific time period.

What is our primary use case?
My main use case for Catchpoint is that it provides synthetic user monitoring for our customer-facing propositions in the territory. We use it to check their availability and performance and receive notifications when Catchpoint detects an issue.
A quick specific example of how I use Catchpoint in my day-to-day work is that it is one of our key observability tools as it provides great insights from the performance and availability perspective of an application. This helps us fine-tune and enhance our end-user experience to a great extent. In our organization, we have been using the tool to create multiple kinds of monitors such as web transaction, SSL, and API. Each of these monitors is extremely insightful and has helped us understand our application and dig deep into the flows. It also provides an excellent dashboard feature that is very handy to the business and product owners who at any given time are now able to glance through the app performance, response time, availability, and similar metrics.
What is most valuable?
The best features Catchpoint offers are Catchpoint Synthetics, Catchpoint API test, Catchpoint Dashboard, and Catchpoint UI.
I would like to add that Catchpoint UI is very user-friendly and with a basic introduction, anyone can just get started. When we talk about Catchpoint Dashboard, this is our one-stop shop for all our monitors. It has multiple widgets that display various application performance metrics. We use this feature immensely and it is of great value to our business. When it comes to Catchpoint Synthetics, it enables us to create our synthetic monitoring using Catchpoint. Creating the Synthetics monitors is easy and requires basic knowledge of Selenium and JavaScript. It also allows us to run the test from external, which is the backbone, and internal enterprise nodes.
Additionally, Catchpoint provides detailed insights of each request that is involved in the application flow, which helps us in addressing the issue at the request level.
With the help of Catchpoint, we are able to address issues before our customers. Our triage time has reduced. We are able to reduce outages and unwanted user incidents. We are able to get to the root cause of the issue efficiently post-implementing Catchpoint monitoring.
What needs improvement?
Despite Catchpoint being very proactive and user-friendly, I find difficulty with the JavaScript editor. The user interface can be slow, especially in the new UI.
I would also add that the script recorder needs some work due to an update by Google, deprecating the use of the current solution.

I have been using Catchpoint for at least six and a half years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
Catchpoint is stable as I have not experienced any lagging, so it is very stable. The performance has always been stable.

In our organization, we use Catchpoint for synthetic monitoring across all of our apps and data centers. We are global and have many apps, and Catchpoint is a great part of our performance monitoring synthetic system.
We use Catchpoint to conduct transaction and Playwright tests and monitor the performance by using different nodes across the world. We care about around the world coverage and the performance differences. Catchpoint meets our use cases through its node locations and detailed Waterfall chart to understand the overall performance.
We use Catchpoint to give us directional data on tech and contact development in order to optimize the customer experience and maximize conversion and engagement.
What is most valuable?
Catchpoint offers performance analysis, network bottlenecks, content analysis, node location, and easy script writing. I have not experienced any downtime. It provides good charts and visualizations.
The performance analysis and network bottleneck features allow us to utilize the node locations and detailed Waterfall chart to understand the overall performance, which helps us know where the performance is down and where we should put more effort.
Catchpoint has a positive impact on customer engagement and conversion. It also positively impacts site performance and speed across all company verticals. Additionally, it has been a great tool because we have seen fewer outages. We can identify the issues and performance bottlenecks easily, enabling us to resolve the issues before they affect our end users.

Catchpoint is a great tool in synthetic monitoring. It addresses a critical piece of monitoring as it provides detailed information on failures and exceptions, not only that something is inaccessible. This helps the teams to review and focus on resolution instead of making sense of tons of alerts and then addressing the core issue.
It has been a great investment and has helped us in reducing the MTTR, mean time to resolve, allowing for easier identification of issues in real time and reduced noise of alerts. It has been a great tool.

Catchpoint has positively impacted my organization because it has been a great tool due to reduced downtime and faster incident resolution, improved user experience and retention, and cost saving through performance optimization.
Regarding cost savings or performance optimization, it has reduced downtime by 55%, and there is a cost saving of about 40%.

I switched from Dynatrace to Catchpoint because Catchpoint mimics human behavior to test by the steps, which is very different. It can see each step's performance. In Dynatrace, it is more about back-end monitoring and does not allow you to design based on your use cases, which is why we switched.

I have seen a return on investment, as there have been ongoing features to meet needs since we started using this tool. Also, there have been fewer outages, and it is very easy to identify the issue of performance bottleneck through root cause analysis and insights.

I have additional thoughts about Catchpoint, as I love its alerting system because when a problem or an alert happens, it notifies the specified teams, allowing them to start investigating why the problem or alert was triggered. This helps minimize the time to get the right people to work and fix a production problem easily.
I found this interview to be fine and do not think anything needs to change for the future.
