You pay by the hour for the software running on the AWS EC2 instance you choose. Each dimension maps to a specific instance type, so pricing scales with the compute, memory, and storage capacity of that instance. Smaller instances like c4.large or c5.large carry lower hourly rates, while larger compute-, memory-, or storage-optimized instances like c6i.32xlarge, r6i.32xlarge, or i4i.32xlarge cost more per hour. You select the instance that fits your workload size. Billing runs on usage, so you pay only for the hours you run, with no upfront commitment.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
What does the hourly rate cover, and what runs on the EC2 instance I choose?
The hourly rate covers the Rocket Vertica software license running on your selected AWS EC2 instance. Each dimension maps to one instance type. You pay the software rate for each hour that instance runs. The underlying AWS compute, storage, and data transfer are billed separately by AWS.
Am I charged the software rate when my instance is stopped or paused?
The software charge meters running time only. When you stop the instance, the hourly software rate stops accruing. Stopped instances may still incur AWS storage fees for attached volumes, but those are separate from the Rocket Vertica software charge shown in the pricing table.
How do I decide which instance dimension fits my analytics workload?
Pick the instance family that matches your workload profile. Compute-optimized (c-series) suits query-heavy processing. Memory-optimized (r-series) suits large in-memory analytics. Storage-dense (d- and i-series) suits petabyte-scale datasets. Larger instance sizes add compute, memory, or storage and carry higher hourly rates.

An AMI is a virtual image that provides the information required to launch an instance. Amazon EC2 (Elastic Compute Cloud) instances are virtual servers on which you can run your applications and workloads, offering varying combinations of CPU, memory, storage, and networking resources. You can launch as many instances from as many different AMIs as you need.
