This is a repackaged open source software product wherein additional charges apply for a secure, ready-to-use Matomo 5 web analytics server. Understand your website visitors while keeping all the data on your own server, with unique passwords for every instance.
Matomo is an open source web analytics platform. It shows who visits your website, where they come from, which pages they read and which campaigns bring sales, and it keeps every piece of data on your own server. This image gives marketers, agencies and website owners a working Matomo server in minutes, so you can add the tracking code to your site and start seeing reports the same day.
What is included: Matomo 5.13.0 on Ubuntu 24.04 LTS, Apache with PHP, MySQL 8.0, phpMyAdmin 5.2 for database administration and Webmin 2.660 for server administration. The Matomo setup is already complete and its site address follows the instance's public IP automatically. Security is on by default: no password ships in the image. On first boot every instance sets its own Matomo administrator, MySQL root and Webmin passwords, a new Matomo salt and a new phpMyAdmin secret, MySQL listens only on the server itself, and SSH accepts key-based login only.
What you get on top of the free software: a pre-built and tested image that is ready in minutes, a unique security setup for every server, simple scripts for changing passwords, regular image updates, and help by email whenever you need it. Matomo is open source software licensed under GPL-3.0. Matomo is a trademark of InnoCraft Ltd. This image is an independent build by ProvenCloud.

You pay by the hour for the EC2 instance running this pre-built image. The software itself is open source and needs no license key, so the hourly rate reflects the instance size you pick. Each dimension maps to one EC2 instance type, grouped into families: compute-optimized (c), general purpose (m, t), memory-optimized (r, x, z), storage-optimized (d, i, h), and accelerated computing (g, p, f, inf, trn, vt). Larger sizes within a family carry higher hourly rates. You choose the size matching your workload, and billing scales with how long each instance runs.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
What specification do I get for each hourly instance dimension?
Each dimension maps to one EC2 instance type, which sets the CPU, memory, and any attached storage or accelerators. For example, t3a.medium gives general-purpose compute, while r-family sizes give more memory per core. You pick the instance type that fits your Matomo traffic and keep the same software stack regardless.
Am I charged when the instance is stopped?
The hourly software rate meters running time only, so a stopped instance stops accruing software charges. You may still pay AWS for attached storage, such as the 30 GiB root volume, while the instance is stopped. Restarting resumes hourly billing at the rate for your chosen instance type.
Does the hourly price include any software license fee for Matomo?
No separate license fee applies. Matomo ships as open source under GPL-3.0 and needs no license key. The hourly charge reflects the EC2 instance size you select. You pay AWS for the compute and storage the instance uses while it runs.

Vendor refund policy
Software charges are billed hourly, only while your instance runs. You can stop charges at any time by terminating the instance or cancelling your subscription. Charges already incurred are not refundable.

An AMI is a virtual image that provides the information required to launch an instance. Amazon EC2 (Elastic Compute Cloud) instances are virtual servers on which you can run your applications and workloads, offering varying combinations of CPU, memory, storage, and networking resources. You can launch as many instances from as many different AMIs as you need.
Version release notes
Security update: all Ubuntu 24.04 LTS security patches, including the Brotli library fix for CVE-2026-111497. Running servers are not affected; on an existing server, sudo apt update && sudo apt full-upgrade applies the same fix.
Matomo 5.14.2 (was 5.13.0) on Ubuntu 24.04 LTS with Apache, PHP 8.3, MySQL 8.0, phpMyAdmin 5.2.3 and Webmin 2.670.
Fixed: scheduled report processing now runs every 15 minutes on new servers, so reports appear without opening the dashboard.
Every instance creates its own Matomo, MySQL and Webmin passwords, Matomo salt and server keys on first boot.
Includes helper scripts in /home/ubuntu/iscripts for changing passwords and checking status.
Additional details
Usage instructions
Once the instance is running, enter http://<instance-public-ip> into your browser. You will see the Matomo sign-in page; enter admin as the username and your instance ID as the password. phpMyAdmin is at http://<instance-public-ip>/phpmyadmin; sign in with root as the username and your instance ID as the password. Webmin is on port 8000, so open http://<instance-public-ip>:8000 and sign in with admin as the username and your instance ID as the password. You can also connect over SSH with the username ubuntu and your Amazon key pair.
Required inbound ports: 22 (SSH), 80 (Matomo and phpMyAdmin) and 8000 (Webmin). For security, allow ports 22 and 8000 only from your own IP address.
Your instance ID is shown in the EC2 console, for example i-0123456789abcdef0. Every instance sets its own passwords on first boot, so no two instances share a password. Allow two to three minutes after launch for the first-boot setup to finish before you sign in.
Start tracking: in Matomo go to Administration, Websites, Tracking Code and paste the code into your website. Change your passwords with sudo bash /home/ubuntu/iscripts/pass_matomo.sh for Matomo, pass_mysql.sh for MySQL root or pass_webmin.sh for Webmin.
The image serves plain HTTP so it works on a bare IP address. Before using it in production, add your own domain and an SSL certificate, or place it behind a load balancer with HTTPS.
