You pay by the hour for the software running on your chosen Amazon EC2 instance type. There is no upfront commitment. The many options you see are not tiers or feature levels — they are the different EC2 instance sizes and families you can run this WordPress image on. Pricing scales with the instance you pick: smaller instances like t3.nano or m1.small cost less per hour, while larger compute, memory, storage, or GPU instances cost more. Choose the instance that matches your workload, and your hourly charge follows that selection.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
What does the hourly rate cover, and what do I pay AWS separately?
The hourly rate covers the WordPress software image running on your chosen EC2 instance. You pay AWS separately for the underlying compute, storage, and data transfer of that instance. The two charges appear together but are metered independently for the same running instance.
Am I charged the hourly software fee when my instance is stopped?
The software fee meters running time only. A fully stopped instance does not accrue the hourly software charge. You may still pay AWS for attached storage while the instance is stopped, but the software licence bills only while the instance runs.
If I move to a larger instance later, does my hourly charge change automatically?
Yes. Your hourly charge follows the instance type you run. When you switch to a different family or size, billing shifts to that instance's rate for the hours it runs. There is no upfront commitment, so you can change instances as your workload changes.
