Nexthink Helps Customer IT Teams Improve Effectiveness and Support Global Customers Using AWS

2023

Nexthink helps global businesses create a more responsive and effective IT function. This leads to higher levels of employee productivity and satisfaction as well as cost savings. The company migrated to AWS to keep its own IT team small so it can support a Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) solution. Nexthink completed the full migration in a 5-month window. Using Amazon Web Services (AWS) also keeps Nexthink’s IT team agile so it can focus on its products, provide a reliable network to handle large amounts of customer data, and support its international customer base.

If we hadn’t migrated to AWS, we would have needed to increase our IT team by 20 percent. Using AWS really helps us meet our operational efficiency goals.”

Waiting for a response from the IT helpdesk or dealing with slow applications costs businesses millions in lost employee productivity. Nexthink helps businesses make sure that workers always have the tools they need to perform their duties. Using its platform, IT departments can proactively measure and manage the entire digital employee experience via near real-time analytics, automation, and employee feedback, helping increase productivity and engagement as well as save costs.

The company’s hybrid solution provides insights into workers’ activities across different devices, operating systems, networks, applications, and locations that allow customer IT teams to proactively handle issues such as poor network performance, policy breaches, or underperforming apps before they impact employees.

Providing these insights means managing multiple data streams on worker interactions with IT, helpdesks, and operations teams. The shift to remote working during the COVID-19 pandemic only increased businesses’ need to gain real-time visibility into whether workers were remaining effective in this model of working.

To manage these challenges and support a shift to a SaaS approach, Nexthink turned to AWS. The company chose AWS for its wide number of modern managed services and its global scale to support its own global growth plans.

During the first part of the migration, Nexthink moved its most critical workloads to build the foundation of its cloud setup. The migration took 5 months with Nexthink able to reduce overall IT costs using AWS Compute Savings Plans. Using AWS also keeps Nexthink’s IT team small and agile so it can focus on its core product, provide a reliable infrastructure to handle large amounts of customer data, and support the global reach of its customer base.

Nexthink Helps Customers Gain Productive Work Hours and Improve Employee Satisfaction

Nexthink’s solution has helped customers to see visible increases in workforce satisfaction with higher employee Net Promoter Scores. It also returns hours of productive working time back to employees, and averts thousands of incidents each year.

The Nexthink team, based in Switzerland and the US, chose AWS to support its infrastructure so its team could concentrate on developing its core product and keeping customers happy. “We wanted a cloud provider with a wide range of managed services and with the same global footprint as our customer base,” says Guido Patanella, vice president (VP) cloud and architecture for Nexthink. “The AWS Professional Services and Enterprise Support teams worked closely with us to ensure we could benefit optimally from the services we chose, ensuring they integrated seamlessly with our technology requirements. Its teams are always proactive and always work hard to help us architect new solutions and make sure costs are kept to a minimum.”

The AWS Professional Services team assisted with the migration and supported the move by consulting closely with Nexthink to determine the optimal use of its services and to integrate as seamlessly as possible with its existing technology requirements.

To support the migration, Nexthink used AWS Enterprise Support, giving the company 24/7 enhanced access to AWS cloud engineers. This helped ensure a smooth cloud transition, as well as offer best-practice advice to help minimize cloud spend and optimize workloads.

Building its solution on AWS means the company’s IT team has stayed small and efficient, because it has automated or eliminated many infrastructure maintenance tasks. “If we hadn’t migrated to AWS, we would have needed to increase our IT team by 20 percent,” says Patanella. “Using AWS really helps us meet our operational efficiency goals.”

Nexthink can manage large amounts of data and make insights nearly instantly available to customers, using Amazon Managed Streaming for Apache Kafka (Amazon MSK), which makes it easy to ingest and process streaming data in real time. The company also uses Amazon Aurora, a MySQL and PostgreSQL-compatible relational database built for the cloud.
