    Secure mobile container management has protected BYOD data and controls corporate access

    What is our primary use case?

    My main use case for IBM Security MaaS360 with Watson  is with BYOD, personal devices. So if a person is let go or if someone is quitting the job, we want to make sure that our company's data is not compromised. We basically install a configuration profile of the corporate data, including emails and other permitted apps. When the person leaves the job, we securely remove those corporate details and company details from that phone with just one click, so they don't have any email access once they leave the job.

    I find the process of setting up and managing configuration profiles for BYOD devices using IBM Security MaaS360 with Watson  pretty straightforward. I've been using it for a while, so I know exactly what to do, how to set up the configuration profiles and user configurations, install the apps, and put a security lock on the container itself. It's straightforward; once you get used to it, it's a very simple tool to work with.

    Regarding my main use case or setup experience with IBM Security MaaS360 with Watson, it literally depends on what the company is willing to restrict for the users, what to see, and what not to provide to the customers. We can drill down to very specific granular security. If it's a corporate device, then you can put as many locks and restrictions as you want. You can use the phone as a Knox to just show one tab or even one app when they open up the phone and block everything else, such as the camera, the internet, Safari, or Chrome, or whatever browser, and the copy features. It goes very granular and in-depth, depending on what the company requirements are. Based on that, I provision the configuration profiles for the users and then deploy them. There are several ways to deploy that as well, such as sending an email, sending a text message with the user-specific credentials, or using NFC codes where the user scans the barcode, and it picks up the profile and does its magic. If it's a brand new machine, you can even tie that configuration profile to the MAC address, and the moment you power it on, the profile installs immediately with all the restrictions the company wants the user to have.

    What is most valuable?

    The best feature of IBM Security MaaS360 with Watson, in my experience, is deploying a container profile because not a lot of other MDM  providers offer that feature. Once you have the container, you need a passcode to go inside that container and then access the emails or apps or camera or whatever you want. This is a unique aspect of IBM Security MaaS360 with Watson.

    Users actually appreciate having the secure container of IBM Security MaaS360 with Watson because they have an extra layer of encryption on their device. It makes things much more secure, and I don't think I ever had pushback.

    IBM Security MaaS360 with Watson has positively impacted my organization as an MSP or independent contractor, and all my customers are happy with whoever I set up their organization for their devices, whether it's a corporate device or BYODs. They are pretty much happy with it.

    What needs improvement?

    Regarding IBM Security MaaS360 with Watson, I believe we have all the features, so I don't think there are any flaws for now.

    For how long have I used the solution?

    I have been using IBM Security MaaS360 with Watson for about four to five years on and off, depending on the project basis because I used to work for an MSP, so it depends if the person is willing to spend more money and needs an MDM  solution with a good security feature. Then I recommend IBM Security MaaS360 with Watson. If they want to go on a cheaper version, I recommend Miradore , ZenMobile, the VMware tool AirWatch, Intune , or Meraki.

    What do I think about the stability of the solution?

    IBM Security MaaS360 with Watson is stable.

    What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

    Regarding scalability, IBM Security MaaS360 with Watson is easily scalable, and I haven't had any problems with that. I've scaled it in the past, and it's a pretty straightforward curve.

    How are customer service and support?

    Customer support for IBM Security MaaS360 with Watson is good; they are very responsive and fast responders. I barely call them, but whenever I have, I had a good experience with them.

    Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

    I previously used Miradore  a lot; it's a product of Finland. It is simple for basic configurations but lacks a lot of security features. I used it because it was cheaper, and the client was not willing to pay more than a specific budget, so I recommended that.

    What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

    My experience with pricing, setup costs, and licensing for IBM Security MaaS360 with Watson is that it's a little pricey compared to other tools such as Meraki, Jamf, ZenMobile, Intune , and Miradore, mainly because it has that feature, and they deserve that price.

    Which other solutions did I evaluate?

    Before choosing IBM Security MaaS360 with Watson, I evaluated other options, including Microsoft Intune, which is pretty similar.

    What other advice do I have?

    IBM Security MaaS360 with Watson is very good in terms of security, especially in today's world in the age of AI. It is very specific and performs multiple verifications, so it's pretty tight. You can configure it with an LDAP and have all those features, which makes it highly secure. Regarding IBM Security MaaS360 with Watson's AI capabilities, I think it offers high-level security for mobile users in a corporate environment.

    Regarding the accuracy and reliability of IBM Security MaaS360 with Watson's AI capabilities, it is accurate in terms of geolocation, in deploying apps, and in general ease of access.

    The specific outcome I've seen with IBM Security MaaS360 with Watson is adding a geolocation feature to restrict the device to a specific zip code or GPS location, as if you go beyond that point, the phone may not work. The device becomes useless outside that range, which is good for people who want to use it inside the corporate area, and I find that pretty cool.

    I would advise anyone looking into using IBM Security MaaS360 with Watson that if you are not willing to compromise on security, then definitely this is your number one product to go for, because in today's world, security is everything. The more secure you are, the better for you, and the less trouble you will have.

The overall goal is to block any data sharing and prevent insider threats, with companies typically preferring a cloud-based solution that manages all mobile devices, laptops, and endpoints.

    A specific example of how clients use IBM Security MaaS360 with Watson  to block data sharing or prevent insider threats involves the use of policies within IBM Security MaaS360 with Watson. By simply enabling these policies on a mobile device, clients can effectively block data sharing.

This ensures that company data is kept separate and secure within its own container.

    IBM Security MaaS360 with Watson includes both basic and advanced capabilities of a complete MDM  or UEM  solution and allows for policy customization to optimize results.     My main use case for IBM Security MaaS360 with Watson  is controlling my company's devices, controlling users, what they can access, and what they can download, as well as controlling mobile data.

    A quick, specific example of how this device and mobile data control helped my team in day-to-day work is that since there were many devices, we had no idea what was being used or how our data was being spent. With IBM Security MaaS360 with Watson , we were able to optimize and understand what was being spent and managed to save money.

    Regarding this use case or any other benefit I noticed in the control of the devices, there is nothing else to add.

    The best features that IBM Security MaaS360 with Watson offers include being able to control what is going to be installed in the app and what can and cannot be installed, as well as the external management capability.

    Regarding the external management, I can explain that it is the ability to install apps and remove apps from a group of users from my computer, regardless of where they are.
