See Legacy AWS Free Tier for more details.
You pay by the hour for this CentOS 9 image, with no upfront commitment. Each pricing dimension maps to a specific Amazon EC2 instance type you choose at launch. The list spans many instance families, including general-purpose, compute-optimized, memory-optimized, storage-optimized, and accelerated-computing options, plus bare-metal variants. Within each family, prices scale with instance size, so larger sizes with more vCPUs and memory cost more per hour. You select one instance type, and billing follows the hours that instance runs. Software charges apply on top of standard AWS infrastructure fees for the same instance.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
What do I actually pay for when I run this CentOS 9 image on an EC2 instance?
You pay the vendor's hourly software charge for the instance type you launch. This is separate from and added on top of the standard AWS charges for that same EC2 instance. The CentOS 9 image comes as a minimal install, ready to run on the instance you select.
Am I charged the software fee when my instance is stopped or paused?
The software charge meters running hours only. When you stop or pause an instance, the hourly software fee stops accruing. Note that AWS may still bill underlying infrastructure costs, such as attached storage, while the instance sits stopped. Restarting the instance resumes the hourly software charge.
If I switch to a larger instance type, how does my hourly cost change?
Each instance type is a separate pricing dimension. Switching to a larger size within a family means you pay that size's hourly rate instead. Larger sizes carry more vCPUs and memory and cost more per hour. You choose the instance type at launch, and billing follows the running hours of that choice.
