You pay by the hour for each running virtual machine, with no upfront commitment. The product runs Windows Server 2025 Datacenter Core and bills based on the EC2 instance type you choose. Pricing scales with instance size and family. The T2, T3, and T3a families cover general-purpose workloads across nano through 2xlarge sizes. The M3, M4, M5, M5a, M5ad, M5d, M5dn, and M5n families offer larger memory and compute options, up to metal and 24xlarge sizes. Larger instances cost more per hour. You control your total cost by selecting the instance size that fits your needs.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
What does one billing unit cover, and what is running on the instance?
Each unit is one running EC2 instance measured in hours. Every instance comes as a fresh Windows Server 2025 Datacenter Core installation. You connect over Remote Desktop using a generated private key and password. The instance size you pick sets the CPU and memory you receive per hour.
Am I charged when an instance is stopped or powered off?
Software charges accrue only while an instance runs, billed per hour. A fully stopped instance stops accruing the hourly software charge. Underlying AWS storage or other resource fees may still apply while the instance is stopped. You reduce cost by running instances only when you need them.
How do the many instance types affect what I pay?
You pick one instance type and pay its hourly rate for the hours it runs. Rates rise with instance size and family. Smaller sizes like nano and micro cost less per hour than metal and 24xlarge sizes. You do not combine types on one charge; each running instance bills separately.
