SUSE Linux Micro is a lightweight and secure OS platform purpose-built for containerized workloads. (No EMEA Orders) It is well suited for any decentralized computing environment such as edge, embedded or IoT deployment without vendor lock-in.
SUSE Linux Micro leverages the enterprise-hardened technology components of SUSE Linux Enterprise and merges that with what developers want from a modern, secure, immutable OS platform. As a result, you get an ultra-reliable infrastructure platform that is also simple to use and comes out-of-the-box with best-in-class compliance.
Highlights
Immutable OS. Immutable design ensures the OS is not altered during runtime and runs reliably every single time. Security signed and verified transactional updates are easy to rollback if things go wrong.
Perfect for Containers and Kubernetes. You can easily combine SUSE Linux Micro with the latest cloud-native technologies including Rancher, RKE, Longhorn persistent block storage, and K3S, the world's most popular Kubernetes distribution for use in low resource, distributed edge locations.
Low maintenance. SUSE Linux Micro with its small footprint and modular architecture makes it easy to customize, build images, configure, deploy, update, and automate. So, all routine maintenance functions like patches, updates, config changes are seamless.
AWS Marketplace now accepts line of credit payments through the PNC Vendor Finance program. This program is available to select AWS customers in the US, excluding NV, NC, ND, TN, & VT.
Pricing is based on actual usage, with charges varying according to how much you consume. Subscriptions have no end date and may be canceled any time. Alternatively, you can pay upfront for a contract, which typically covers your anticipated usage for the contract duration. Any usage beyond contract will incur additional usage-based costs.
Additional AWS infrastructure costs may apply. Use the AWS Pricing Calculator to estimate your infrastructure costs.
You pay by the hour for each running instance, with no upfront commitment. Pricing follows the AWS Graviton (arm64) instance you choose, so your cost tracks the compute, memory, storage, and network capacity of that instance. The dimensions cover general-purpose, compute-optimized, memory-optimized, storage-optimized, and bare-metal families across many sizes, from small shared instances up to very large and metal types. Larger instances carry a higher hourly rate than smaller ones in the same family. You can run any mix of instances and are billed per hour for each.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
What am I paying for with these hourly charges — the operating system or the AWS instance?
The hourly rate covers the SUSE Linux Micro software licence for the arm64 instance you run. AWS bills the underlying compute separately. You pay the software charge for each running instance, per hour, based on the instance type you select.
Am I charged when an instance is stopped or powered off?
The software charge meters running time per hour. A fully stopped instance does not accrue the software fee. Underlying AWS storage or other resources may still bill separately, but the SUSE Linux Micro charge applies only while the instance runs.
Does my hourly cost change if I move to a larger instance in the same family?
Yes. Each instance type has its own hourly rate. Larger sizes in a family carry a higher rate than smaller ones. The change takes effect when you launch the new instance type. You are billed per hour for whatever mix you run.

An AMI is a virtual image that provides the information required to launch an instance. Amazon EC2 (Elastic Compute Cloud) instances are virtual servers on which you can run your applications and workloads, offering varying combinations of CPU, memory, storage, and networking resources. You can launch as many instances from as many different AMIs as you need.
Use the image to start an instance of your choice in Amazon EC2. Once the instance is running connect to it using a Secure Shell (SSH) client as 'ec2-user' and the configured SSH key. The instance is connected to the SUSE update infrastructure to receive updates. Use the transactional-update command to update the system or install additional packages.
In order to provide you with support for your SL Micro instance, you need to first generate and upload your instance's supportconfig file. See the Marketplace Support Page in SUSE Customer Center for more information on how to create a supportconfig file and follow the prompts.
