What does the hourly charge on each instance type actually cover?
The hourly rate covers the hardened Debian 12 software image, not the underlying compute. The image is secured using automated hardening tools built to NIST standards, with over 100 security controls enabled and monthly updates. You pay this software charge on top of your separate AWS infrastructure cost for the instance.
Am I charged the hourly software fee when an instance is stopped?
The software fee meters running instance-hours only. A fully stopped instance does not accrue the hourly software charge. Stopped instances may still incur separate AWS storage fees for attached volumes, but those come from AWS, not from this listing's software price.
How does the price differ between a small instance and a large one?
Each dimension maps to one specific ARM instance size, and you are billed per hour for whichever you run. Larger sizes with more vCPUs, memory, or local storage carry higher hourly rates. Metal instances, which give dedicated physical hardware, bill at higher rates than shared virtual sizes.
