Oracle Database 21c Express Edition on Windows - Pre-Configured AMI
Oracle Database 21c Express Edition (XE) delivers the full power of Oracle's converged database engine with zero licence fees, capped at 2CPU threads,2 GB RAM, and 12 GB user data. This cloudimg AMI packages Oracle XE on Windows Server so you can launch a production-ready Oracle environment in minutes rather than spending hours on manual installation and configuration.
Why Choose This AMI Over Manual Setup or Alternatives
Deploy in minutes, not hours - Skip the multi-step Oracle installer, Windows configuration, and AWS agent setup. This AMI is ready to accept connections immediately after boot.
Pre-installed AWS tooling - AWS CLI v2, Systems Manager Agent, and CloudWatch Agent come configured out of the box, giving you automation, patching, and observability from day one.
ENA Express optimised networking - Single TCP flow bandwidth up to 25 Gbps accelerates Data Pump exports, RMAN backups, and bulk data transfers to S3.
Multi-version Windows support - Available on Windows Server 2016, 2019, and 2022 so you can match your organisation's OS standard.
Average 1-hour support response - cloudimg's 24/7 Oracle specialists respond to tickets in an average of one hour, with a guaranteed 24-hour maximum response time.
Security and Hardening
Latest Windows patches applied - The AMI ships with current cumulative updates to minimise the vulnerability window at launch.
EBS encryption compatible - Launch with encrypted EBS volumes to enable AES-256 encryption at rest for all Oracle data files, redo logs, and backups without additional configuration.
Windows Firewall active - Only required ports (RDP 3389, Oracle listener 1521) are open by default; all other inbound traffic is blocked.
Oracle default accounts locked - Non-essential database accounts are locked and expired, reducing the attack surface from first boot.
Systems Manager for patch management - SSM Agent enables automated patching schedules so your instance stays current without manual intervention.
Common Use Cases
Learning SQL and PL/SQL with full Oracle compatibility
CI/CD pipelines requiring an Oracle instance on demand
Small departmental applications or ISV products embedding Oracle XE
Proof-of-concept environments before migrating to Oracle Standard or Enterprise editions

Highlights
24/7 Oracle support with average 1-hour response - Unlike unsupported community AMIs or vendors with next-business-day SLAs, cloudimg's Oracle specialists respond to tickets in an average of one hour around the clock, with a guaranteed maximum 24-hour response time. This means your development or production Oracle XE environment never waits overnight for critical assistance, reducing downtime risk for your team.
One-click deployment saves hours of manual setup - This AMI eliminates the multi-step Oracle installer, Windows configuration, and AWS agent installation process. AWS CLI v2, Systems Manager Agent, and CloudWatch Agent are pre-configured, so you get automation, patching, and observability from first boot. Teams report going from launch to a working Oracle connection in minutes rather than the hours required for a manual build.
Secure, hardened baseline with ENA Express networking - The AMI ships with current Windows patches, Windows Firewall restricting inbound traffic to only RDP and Oracle listener ports, and locked non-essential Oracle accounts. EBS encryption at rest is fully supported for AES-256 protection of data files. ENA Express networking delivers up to 25 Gbps single-flow bandwidth for fast Data Pump transfers and RMAN backups to S3.

Pricing is based on actual usage, with charges varying according to how much you consume. Subscriptions have no end date and may be canceled any time. Alternatively, you can pay upfront for a contract, which typically covers your anticipated usage for the contract duration. Any usage beyond contract will incur additional usage-based costs.
Additional AWS infrastructure costs may apply. Use the AWS Pricing Calculator to estimate your infrastructure costs.
If you are an AWS Free Tier customer with a free plan, you are eligible to subscribe to this offer. You can use free credits to cover the cost of eligible AWS infrastructure. See AWS Free Tier for more details. If you created an AWS account before July 15th, 2025, and qualify for the Legacy AWS Free Tier, Amazon EC2 charges for Micro instances are free for up to 750 hours per month. See Legacy AWS Free Tier for more details.
You pay by the hour based on the EC2 instance type you run. Each dimension maps to one instance type, so your rate scales with the compute size you choose. Smaller instances like t3.nano or t2.micro carry lower hourly rates. Larger and specialized instances, such as high-memory, storage-optimized, GPU, and bare-metal types, carry higher rates. The software cost is added on top of standard AWS infrastructure charges. You are not locked into one size; pick the instance that fits your workload. All options include the same Oracle Database 21c Express software and 24/7 support.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
What compute resources does one hourly instance charge actually cover?
Each hourly rate covers one running EC2 instance of the chosen type. The instance vCPU and memory depend on that type. For example, m5.large gives 2 vCPU and 8 GB RAM. cloudimg recommends m5.large or larger, with at least 1 vCPU, 1 GB RAM, and 30 GB disk.
Am I charged the software rate when my instance is stopped?
The hourly software charge applies only while the instance runs. A stopped instance stops accruing software charges. You may still pay AWS for attached storage, such as the 30 GB gp3 volume, since that persists while stopped. Charges resume when you start the instance again.
How do the software charge and the AWS infrastructure charge combine on my bill?
Two charges bill together per running hour. One is the cloudimg software rate tied to your instance type. The other is the standard AWS charge for that EC2 instance. Both accrue at the same time and appear on the same invoice. Larger instances raise both charges.
