SUSE Linux (SL) Micro is a lightweight and secure OS platform purpose-built for containerized workloads. It is well suited for any decentralized computing environment such as edge, embedded or IoT deployment without vendor lock-in. (EMEA Orders Only)
SUSE Linux Micro leverages the enterprise-hardened technology components of SUSE Linux Enterprise and merges that with what developers want from a modern, secure, immutable OS platform. As a result, you get an ultra-reliable infrastructure platform that is also simple to use and comes out-of-the-box with best-in-class compliance.
Highlights
Immutable OS. Immutable design ensures the OS is not altered during runtime and runs reliably every single time. Security signed and verified transactional updates are easy to rollback if things go wrong.
Perfect for Containers and Kubernetes. You can easily combine SL Micro with the latest cloud-native technologies including Rancher, RKE, Longhorn persistent block storage, and K3S, the world's most popular Kubernetes distribution for use in low resource, distributed edge locations.
Low maintenance. SL Micro with its small footprint and modular architecture makes it easy to customize, build images, configure, deploy, update, and automate. So, all routine maintenance functions like patches, updates, config changes are seamless.
AWS Marketplace now accepts line of credit payments through the PNC Vendor Finance program. This program is available to select AWS customers in the US, excluding NV, NC, ND, TN, & VT.
Pricing is based on actual usage, with charges varying according to how much you consume. Subscriptions have no end date and may be canceled any time. Alternatively, you can pay upfront for a contract, which typically covers your anticipated usage for the contract duration. Any usage beyond contract will incur additional usage-based costs.
Additional AWS infrastructure costs may apply. Use the AWS Pricing Calculator to estimate your infrastructure costs.
If you are an AWS Free Tier customer with a free plan, you are eligible to subscribe to this offer. You can use free credits to cover the cost of eligible AWS infrastructure. See AWS Free Tier for more details. If you created an AWS account before July 15th, 2025, and qualify for the Legacy AWS Free Tier, Amazon EC2 charges for Micro instances are free for up to 750 hours per month. See Legacy AWS Free Tier for more details.
You pay by the hour for SUSE Linux Enterprise Micro running on an EC2 instance. This listing serves EMEA orders on x86_64 hardware. Pricing is not tiered. Instead, each dimension maps to one EC2 instance type, from small shared instances to large bare-metal and memory-heavy machines. The hourly software rate is set per instance type, so larger instances carry a different rate than smaller ones. You choose the instance size that fits your workload, and billing follows the hours that instance runs. No upfront commitment applies.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
What does one hourly charge map to, and how is the instance size decided?
Each hourly rate maps to one EC2 instance type you launch SUSE Linux Enterprise Micro on. The rate reflects that instance's size, from small shared types to large bare-metal and memory-heavy machines. You pick the type matching your workload. Billing counts the hours that single instance runs.
Am I charged the software rate when an instance is stopped or powered off?
The software rate meters running hours only. A fully stopped or powered-off instance does not accrue the hourly software charge. Underlying AWS storage or other resources may still bill separately. When you restart the instance, hourly software metering resumes for the time it runs.
Do I commit upfront, or does billing simply follow usage each hour?
Billing follows usage with no upfront commitment. You pay the per-hour software rate for each instance type only while that instance runs. There is no fixed term or minimum quantity. This suits variable or short-lived edge and container workloads where runtime changes across the month.

An AMI is a virtual image that provides the information required to launch an instance. Amazon EC2 (Elastic Compute Cloud) instances are virtual servers on which you can run your applications and workloads, offering varying combinations of CPU, memory, storage, and networking resources. You can launch as many instances from as many different AMIs as you need.
Use the image to start an instance of your choice in Amazon EC2. Once the instance is running connect to it using a Secure Shell (SSH) client as 'ec2-user' and the configured SSH key. The instance is connected to the SUSE update infrastructure to receive updates. Use the transactional-update command to update the system or install additional packages.
AWS Support is a one-on-one, fast-response support channel that is staffed 24x7x365 with experienced and technical support engineers. The service helps customers of all sizes and technical abilities to successfully utilize the products and features provided by Amazon Web Services.
