All 44 options bill hourly, so the software rate scales with the instance's compute and memory capacity. Options span burstable t2 and t3 instances for lighter, variable workloads, and general-purpose m3, m4, m5, m5a, m5ad, m5d, m5dn, m5n, m5zn, m6a, and m7a families for steadier needs. Larger sizes (xlarge, 2xlarge, up to 8xlarge) carry higher hourly rates. You pay only for the hours each instance runs.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
The hourly rate covers the WAMP software license for the chosen instance size. It includes Apache, MySQL, and PHP pre-configured on Windows Server 2022, plus 24/7 support. Each running instance meters one instance-hour per hour it stays powered on. Larger sizes carry higher hourly software rates.
The hourly software charge meters only running time. A fully stopped instance does not accrue software charges. Note that AWS may still bill underlying storage fees, such as for the attached disk and any allocated Elastic IP, even while the instance is powered off.
Burstable t2 and t3 families suit lighter, variable workloads and carry lower hourly rates at smaller sizes. General-purpose m-series families suit steadier, continuous use. Your bill follows the single family and size you launch. You are not billed across families at once.
