Who: Developers, DBAs, Architects; Security and Compliance Engineers
What: Improving database scale and security requires application changes. The Heimdall Proxy removes this operational burden.
Our proxy is a data access layer that intelligently routes, caches and secures queries for your current database. Deploy as an EC2 proxy tier
AWS Marketplace now accepts line of credit payments through the PNC Vendor Finance program. This program is available to select AWS customers in the US, excluding NV, NC, ND, TN, & VT.
Pricing is based on actual usage, with charges varying according to how much you consume. Subscriptions have no end date and may be canceled any time. Alternatively, you can pay upfront for a contract, which typically covers your anticipated usage for the contract duration. Any usage beyond contract will incur additional usage-based costs.
Additional AWS infrastructure costs may apply. Use the AWS Pricing Calculator to estimate your infrastructure costs.
You pay by the hour based on the AWS EC2 instance size you run the proxy on. Each instance type carries its own hourly rate, so the cost scales with the compute capacity you choose. Options span general-purpose, compute-optimized, memory-optimized, and storage-optimized instance families in sizes from medium up to 4xlarge. Larger instances handle heavier query traffic and higher throughput. Each running instance is licensed and billed separately through AWS. You match the instance size to your workload, then pay only for the hours each instance runs.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
Am I charged when a proxy instance is stopped or powered off?
Hourly software charges meter running time only. A fully stopped instance stops accruing the Heimdall Proxy hourly charge. You may still owe underlying AWS fees, such as storage for a stopped instance, but the proxy license bills only while the instance runs.
If I run several proxy instances, how are they licensed and billed?
Each running instance is licensed and paid separately through AWS. If you deploy distributed, auto-scaling proxies, every instance meters its own hours at the rate for its instance type. Your total bill adds up the hours across all running instances.
What do I actually get for the hourly rate on each instance type?
The rate covers the Heimdall Proxy Enterprise Edition software running on that EC2 instance. This includes distributed auto-scaling proxies, read/write splitting, query caching, connection pooling, SQL analytics, and enterprise-level support. Larger instance sizes handle heavier query traffic and higher throughput.

An AMI is a virtual image that provides the information required to launch an instance. Amazon EC2 (Elastic Compute Cloud) instances are virtual servers on which you can run your applications and workloads, offering varying combinations of CPU, memory, storage, and networking resources. You can launch as many instances from as many different AMIs as you need.
On initialization, the default account of "admin" will be created for use on the GUI on HTTP://<instance IP address>:8087, using the Amazon Instance ID password. SSH access is provided as normal for Amazon Linux 2.

As our application scaled in complexity and in adoption, we quickly realized that we'd be running into serious bottlenecks with RDS. We looked into scaling and complex replication options, but soon realized that it just would not make financial sense.
We are thankful to have found Heimdall at a time when scaling became a focus area for us. Heimdall's solution helped us dramatically reduce the direct reliance on RDS while simultaneously improving our platform's performance.
The biggest wins for us have been: - Reduced our RDS costs by 55% (compared a year after implementation) - Improved application performance by approximately 80% - Having not a vendor, but a partner in the journey to effective and feasible scaling.
I am not sure how we would have been able to scale our platform without Heimdall, especially in the critical cash-strapped arena that often defines startups.
A huge bravo to Roland and Erik!

Heimdall's SQL-aware read/write splitting enabled us to use read replicas in our Aurora cluster very quickly with no application code changes required. Also their technical support spent a generous amount of time helping us get the configuration right for our use case. Thank you!

Heimdall helped us to utilize our RDS read replica, caching the queries. have full control of our DB tables in terms of caching balancing.... I highly recommend it for any system facing downtime or DB performance issues.
