Additional AWS infrastructure costs may apply. Use the AWS Pricing Calculator to estimate your infrastructure costs.
If you are an AWS Free Tier customer with a free plan, you are eligible to subscribe to this offer. You can use free credits to cover the cost of eligible AWS infrastructure. See AWS Free Tier for more details. If you created an AWS account before July 15th, 2025, and qualify for the Legacy AWS Free Tier, Amazon EC2 charges for Micro instances are free for up to 750 hours per month. See Legacy AWS Free Tier for more details.
You pay by the hour for the software running on an AWS EC2 instance. The price you see is the software fee, billed for each hour the instance runs. There are no tiers or feature levels here. Instead, each dimension maps to a specific EC2 instance type, and pricing scales with the size and family of instance you pick. Smaller general-purpose types like t2 and t3 sit at the low end, while large compute, memory, storage, and GPU-accelerated types cost more per hour. The deployment guide notes a t2.large default with at least 2 vCPUs and 8 GB RAM for faster syncing.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
What do I get for the hourly software charge on each instance type?
You get a pre-configured virtual machine running BTCPay Server with a Bitcoin full node synced to near the publication date. The hourly fee covers the software running on one EC2 instance of your chosen type. The default is a t2.large with 2 vCPUs and 8 GB RAM.
Am I charged the hourly software fee when the instance is stopped?
The software fee meters running time. When you stop the instance, the hourly software charge stops accruing. Stopped instances may still incur separate AWS storage fees for attached volumes and any Elastic IP you allocated, but those are AWS infrastructure costs, not the software fee.
Does switching to a different instance type change my hourly cost, and how do I do it?
Yes. Each instance type maps to its own hourly software rate, so changing types changes your rate. You pick the type at launch and can change it later through the EC2 console. Larger compute, memory, storage, or GPU types cost more per hour than smaller general-purpose types.
