This lightweight and secure AlmaLinux 9.6 (ARM/aarch64) image is built from the official ISO image, stripped down to include only the essential packages and required AWS software to make it integrate seamlessly into the AWS infrastructure (AWS CLI, Elastic Network Adapter & NVMe drivers). This results in a minimal image that is fast to boot, reduces storage requirements, and optimizes system responsiveness. The image is updated with the latest security patches and updates, providing protection against known vulnerabilities and ensuring the stability and reliability of your server environment. Other features: key based authentication with 'ec2-user' username, cloud-init and SELinux enabled, root login disabled, automatic root disk resize based on the instance volume configuration. Dimensions summary
You pay by the hour for the AlmaLinux 9.6 ARM64 image plus vendor support. Each dimension maps to a specific ARM64 (Graviton) EC2 instance type, so your rate depends on the instance you run. Prices scale with instance size and family. General-purpose (m, a, t4g), compute-optimized (c), memory-optimized (r, x2gd), storage-optimized (i4g, im4gn, is4gen), GPU (g5g), and HPC (hpc7g) families are all covered. Metal (bare-metal) options exist for many families. Larger sizes cost more per hour. You add EC2 infrastructure charges separately.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
Each dimension maps to one running ARM64 (Graviton) EC2 instance of that type. You pay the listed rate for each hour that instance runs. A larger instance size or a metal (bare-metal) variant carries its own rate. Running two instances of the same type doubles the hourly charge.
The hourly software rate meters running time only. A stopped or terminated instance stops accruing the software charge. Underlying AWS storage or other resources may still incur separate fees while the instance is stopped. Restarting the instance resumes the hourly software charge.
The hourly charge covers the AlmaLinux 9.6 ARM64 image and vendor support. The image ships minimal, with cloud-init, SELinux, and an expandable root disk. You pay AWS EC2 compute and storage charges separately. Image customization is available by contacting the vendor.

Usage instructions
To connect to the VM:
- Use SSH to connect
- Username provisioned inside is: 'ec2-user'
- Use the SSH key provided at the launch of the instance
- Run 'sudo su -' to get a root prompt

Check the health and functionality of the virtual machine you have just launched:
- Go to your Amazon EC2 console and ensure you are in the correct region
- Select 'Instances' from the left menu and click on the newly launched instance
- Click on the 'Status and Alarms' tab at the bottom of the page to check all parameters are green
