Hermes Agent is a self-hosted, self-improving autonomous AI agent that learns from experience, builds its own skills, and remembers past conversations across sessions. It connects to Telegram, Discord, Slack, WhatsApp, and Signal through a unified gateway, runs scheduled automations, and works with any LLM provider including OpenAI, OpenRouter, and custom endpoints, giving teams a flexible, vendor-neutral foundation for autonomous AI workflows.
Hermes Agent is a self-hosted, autonomous AI agent built by Nous Research that learns and improves over time. It combines a built-in learning loop, persistent cross-session memory, and multi-platform messaging support to deliver a self-improving AI system that runs on your own infrastructure. Hermes Agent is ideal for developers, researchers, and organizations who want an autonomous AI agent without vendor lock-in, deployable anywhere from a personal laptop to a lightweight VPS or full cloud infrastructure.
Self-Improving Learning Loop: Hermes Agent creates new skills from experience and refines them during use, continuously improving its own capabilities without manual retraining.
Persistent Cross-Session Memory: Full-text search with LLM-powered summarization lets Hermes Agent recall past conversations and context across sessions, so it never starts from zero.
Multi-Platform Messaging Gateway: Connect Hermes Agent to Telegram, Discord, Slack, WhatsApp, and Signal through a single unified gateway for consistent AI access everywhere your team works.
Scheduled Automation: A built-in cron scheduler runs recurring tasks such as daily reports, backups, and monitoring jobs without any external orchestration.
Parallel Subagents: Isolated subagents allow Hermes Agent to work on multiple tasks concurrently, speeding up complex or multi-step workflows.
Flexible Model Support: Hermes Agent works with any model you choose, including Nous Portal, OpenRouter, OpenAI, and custom endpoints, avoiding lock-in to a single AI provider.

Hermes Agent - Self-Improving Autonomous AI Agent with Memory
Pricing is based on actual usage, with charges varying according to how much you consume. Subscriptions have no end date and may be canceled any time. Alternatively, you can pay upfront for a contract, which typically covers your anticipated usage for the contract duration. Any usage beyond contract will incur additional usage-based costs.
Additional AWS infrastructure costs may apply. Use the AWS Pricing Calculator to estimate your infrastructure costs.
If you are an AWS Free Tier customer with a free plan, you are eligible to subscribe to this offer. You can use free credits to cover the cost of eligible AWS infrastructure. See AWS Free Tier for more details. If you created an AWS account before July 15th, 2025, and qualify for the Legacy AWS Free Tier, Amazon EC2 charges for Micro instances are free for up to 750 hours per month. See Legacy AWS Free Tier for more details.
You pay by the hour for the EC2 instance size you pick, so pricing scales with the compute you run. The options are not feature tiers. They are the same software running on different instance families. The t2 and t3/t3a families cover general-purpose, burstable workloads. The m4, m5, m5a, m6a, m6i, m7i, and m7a families offer balanced compute and memory. The c5, c5a, and c6a families focus on compute. The r5, r5a, r6a, and r6i families offer more memory. Larger sizes within each family cost more per hour.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
What resources come with each hourly instance, and how is one billed hour counted?
Each option runs the same Hermes Agent software on a different EC2 instance size. The CPU and memory you get depend on the instance family and size you pick. You pay the software rate for each hour the instance runs, plus the underlying AWS compute charge.
Am I charged when I stop the Hermes Agent instance?
Hourly software charges apply only while the instance runs. You can stop the instance from the EC2 console and restart it later. A stopped instance does not accrue software charges, though attached storage may still incur AWS fees separately.
Which instance size should I choose, and does a bigger size cost more?
t3a.small is the recommended default for getting started. Pick a size with more compute or memory if you run many concurrent automations, connect several messaging channels, or route requests to larger local models. Larger sizes within each family cost more per hour.

This deployment launches Hermes Agent within a secure EC2 instance, providing a ready to use environment for autonomous AI agent workflows. The AMI is preinstalled and configured, allowing users to connect messaging platforms, configure LLM providers, and start the learning loop immediately after launch. Users can access the agent through the terminal interface or connected messaging channels, and manage scheduled tasks and subagents from the same instance. This architecture is designed for self-hosted deployment, persistent memory, and simplified management.
CloudFormation Template (CFT)
AWS CloudFormation templates are JSON or YAML-formatted text files that simplify provisioning and management on AWS. The templates describe the service or application architecture you want to deploy, and AWS CloudFormation uses those templates to provision and configure the required services (such as Amazon EC2 instances or Amazon RDS DB instances). The deployed application and associated resources are called a "stack."

IAM Role is set up and configured with the necessary permissions to assume the role for the Hermes Agent service. The IAM Policy is created and responsible for access Route53 and create Letsencrypt SSL certificates and backing up data to the S3 bucket.
Access the application via a browser at http://<your domain name> or http://<Public IPv4 address>.
Product will try to create SSL certificate when its deploying, if domain hosted on route53. If the automatic SSL creation unsuccessful then you have to point domain name into server ip, ssh into server and run /root/certificate_generate_standalone.sh. Admin email using for SSL generation.
