Microsoft' standard SQL Server stellar for its time

  • June 17, 2022
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
- uses Microsoft's own Transaction SQL script, giving integrity to data so something can be committed or rolled back.
- despite cost, its much cheaper than Oracle
- known dependable enterprise grade app
What do you dislike about the product?
SQL Server 2012 is end of life soon (2022-07-01)
No Drop If Exists (this came in 2016)
No support for XML or JSON (this also came later)
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
This is the underlying Database infrastructure on many CRMs such as the very popular Blackbaud Raisers Edge system for non profits.

I can query some of the tables in the CRM from this and JOIN with other data I have

Distributed Replay Controller is effective to perform replays against target database for SQL Server

  • April 04, 2022
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Microsoft SQL Server offers transaction statements that can be grouped together within a stored procedure for convenience. It takes the input parameters & provides accurate output values when calling a method to perform specific operations. Its security features protect the database objects and carry code encapsulation for each line of code to execute our stored procedure in a secured manner.
What do you dislike about the product?
Since it's deployed through Amazon Machine Image (AMI), we needn't worry about security layer configurations, regulatory updates and version control management as AWS takes care of the underlying infrastructure. Since its Cloud-based EC2 instance, auto scalability can be provisioned based on our network traffic between our client and server. It is supported on multiple platforms and we don't have to install licenses as it comes along with EC2 for a nominal cost.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It effectively captures all our production workload and can replay it against any target database according to our customer specifications. It requires installation of both Distributed Replay Controller & Replay client for capturing all events & effectively loading them into our DBA utilities. In case we set up Distributed Replay Controller and Distributed Replay client on two separate EC2 machines, we need to configure its firewall carefully so that it can easily communicate between the services.

-makes it easy for administrators -hyper-v solution -storage media -configuration

What do you like best about the product?
-storage media -configuration
Windows server 2012 has a sharing and storage management snap-in feature that provides server role files to make and manage volume and sharing easier. Here there are two facilities, namely the provision storage wizard which is an integrated storage provisioning to perform tasks such as creating a new LUN, specifying LUN type, unmasking LUN, and creating volume formating. Wizard also supports a wide range of protocols such as Fibre Channel, iSCSI and SAS.
What do you dislike about the product?
Operating costs are quite high If the server is in trouble, the entire network will experience interference. Its security level is still low, although it is already better than its predecessor. There are quite a lot of unnecessary (useless) services. Difficult to implement Active Directory (AD)
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Installing and optimizing windows server 2003 is much easier than windows NT. It looks more attractive than previous versions of Windows (similar to Windows XP). The rebooting process is very fast (see also: virtual memory function). Designed for the daily needs of large-scale companies Using DHCP that facilitates large-scale networking organizations.

Great database environment, though newer options exist now

What do you like best about the product?
I've been a SQL Server fan since I began using it with version 6.5 in the mid 1990's. SQL Server 2012 was a solid, stable, and easily implemented version of SQL Server with all the tools - SSRM, SSIS, etc. It ran effortlessly on Windows Server 2012 also. There was a lightweight Web edition too with reduced licensing cost and complexity.
What do you dislike about the product?
One thing about SQL Server 2012 which, thankfully, Microsoft resolved in later versions was when you exported query results in SSMS to CSV or tab-delimited format it never included the column headings!
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We used SQL Server 2012 on Windows Server 2012 for our web site hosting on a virtual private server from an external hosting partner. This allowed us to deploy sophisticated data-driven applications in a safe and secure way.
