Brings real snapshots and volume cloning capability to EBS
Two of the biggest challenges with AWS's EBS service is performing data snapshots and cloning data volumes.
Unlike what we're used to with traditional storage arrays, EBS snapshot restores are not instantaneous. The snapshot operation completes immediately, but the data isn't really available in EBS until it's transferred from S3 which happens in the background. For us, we had multi-TB databases that were taking days to restore from snapshot.
Implementing Actifio Sky allowed us to restore snaps immediately, just like we used to back when we were on-prem. It also gave us back our ability to do data cloning with virtual volumes, which saved us from having to have multiple copies of our data. This saved us a considerable amount of money.
