OpenVPN Access Server Has Been Solid For Us For 10 Years
What do you like best about the product?
For my team and I, OpenVPN Access Server has been part of our infrastructure for the last 10 years. When we first had a need for a reliable, day to day VPN, we researched and spoke with others in our field looking for recommendations. Unanimously most of the people we spoke with recommended OpenVPN. We were tasked with setting it up for a team of about 15 people and found it easy to roll it out even to those in other physical locations with simple to follow instructions. We integrated it for our entire team in less than 24 hours. We consulted with their customer support on a few questions during the initial setup and they were extremely helpful in ensuring a smooth transition from our old VPN server. Our team uses OpenVPN daily with some of us staying connected 24x7. We found that the feature set was more than enough for us as we only use the typical features that most would. With that said we have the flexibility to use more advanced features if we should need them in the future. When it comes time to renew our licensing, it's as simple as copy and pasting the new licenses code. There's no need for a restart or anything that would compromise our connectivity. We have been extremely happy in the 10 years that we have been using OpenVPN Access Server.
What do you dislike about the product?
The only thing that has been a challenge for us over the years is that the licensing model has changed. Even with that change, we were willing to pay a little bit more knowing that the OpenVPN Access Server has worked extremely well for us over the last 10 years. After speaking with their team, they helped us through choosing the right model for oour needs and ever since then we just pay the renewal fees, update our license key, and move on.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Our OpenVPN Server has allowed us to connect our US and internationl teams to the same resources with an easy to use lightweight client. In some cases the international team has slower than normal internet access and even with that the OpenVPN client works well and keeps them connected. A lot of time we are pushing large amounts of code and data from slower connections and the VPN always holds up for us.
Solid, reliable platform with good self service setup for users.
What do you like best about the product?
The platform is great for mobile devices in particular. It's easy to build, configure and manage for a standalone or cluster build. It scales well for user concurrency without requiring heavily resourced servers.
The prebuild AWS instances are very convenient, and the support documenation is excellent.
The prebuild AWS instances are very convenient, and the support documenation is excellent.
What do you dislike about the product?
Integration options for enterprise features like posture assessment are weak compared to solutions integrated to enterprise firewalls.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Cloud based automation, QA and remote vendor teams accessing internet facing dev, test and preprod environments. The platform is lightweight enough for qa teams to support remote users accessing limited environments, in particular while performing mobile device testing.
Affordable, Reliable, Secure Access
What do you like best about the product?
OpenVPN of course is founded on OpenSource. Which means the VPN is mutli-platform and easily compatible and maintainable among many endpoints. SAML integration is great, and provides our required secured access. Its a simple streamlined VPN product.
What do you dislike about the product?
We have honestly never had any issues aside from the occasional security flaw we need to patch, but that is not unique to OpenVPN.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Secure Access to controlled environments, across unique network segments.
A great tool

It's easy to impliment and set up. Being able to connect users to secure network remotly, quickly and easily is a time-saver and efficiant.
What do you dislike about the product?
If a user has a differnet device used for authentication, the user and profle has to be wiped and re-created. It would be nice to re-authenticate without having to delete users and profiles and then re-adding them again

Being able to add multiple users to a location(s) easly and quickly

What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Limiting access to data and source code
Simple solution to implement and effective
What do you like best about the product?
The free version allows you to test the solution and can meet a simple need. If you need to access a system that controls access via IP, it is a very good solution. The implementation is well documented on their site. Updates are frequent.
What do you dislike about the product?
The licensing system has become somewhat more complex over time, and it's a bit of a shame.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It allows us to access filtering systems by IP.
Makes VPN and Network Management a Breeze
What do you like best about the product?
The user-based permissions allow you to limit specific teams to specific network subnets. And split tunneling improves performance by routing only specific traffic through the VPN. This reduces your network throughput for the VPN server. The two factor authentication integration and the individual web portal simplifies user management by allowing easy access to configurations and credentials.
What do you dislike about the product?
The licensing costs can add up quickly for larger teams.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
OpenVPN AS allows us to access our virtual private cloud in a more feature rich and robust way.

What do you like best about the product?
I like that the seat licences can be spread acros multiple servers automatically. It is also great that 2fa can be setup. Many security standards require that feature.
