MySQL Database as a Backend
What do you like best about the product?
At first I loved the fact that it was OpenSource. For personal use it was the easiest and most portable database system around for what I needed to accomplish.
What do you dislike about the product?
It became a bit harder to find OpenSource tools to use to do what I needed to do when it was purchased by Oracle, but it it still by far the easiest to use.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
For our ticketing system it contains everything for Incident, Change Management, etc. Ease of use and how robust it is.
Useful and powerful
What do you like best about the product?
We've used MySQL for years in a variety of web applications. It's incredibly powerful, supporting a wide range of different use-cases and has scaled well in our applications.
What do you dislike about the product?
Development is beginning to fragment more between the enterprise edition, community edition, and now the MariaDB fork. A native tool like MSSQL's SQL Server Management Studio would be useful.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We are using MySQL as a cost effective relational database system. It runs on Linux and saves us a significant amount of money compared to Microsoft licensing costs for Windows and SQL Server.

MySQL for web developer
What do you like best about the product?
It is very simple to be able to work and deploy a solution quickly. The software to interact with the database, mysql workbench in my case has been very useful to perform all tasks, both programming and administration and is open source!
What do you dislike about the product?
When you have to work with large volumes of data the performance is not very good and tends to take a long time, which is not very efficient or reliable against a business solution. I'm talking about MySQL version free
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
At this moment we have functioning meteorological stations that send data through a raspberry pi to a database in MySQL
Recommendations to others considering the product:
The work area where MySQL will be used must be analyzed well, since for large volumes of data the performance is not the best. Scalability is not so simple either. For small applications it works very well

We are developing smart check in system for small boutique clubs where we need to store information about Club, Packages, Classes, Members and memberships. Data is highly relational and would grow as this software is widely used.
MySQL has very good community support which is helpful when we stuck anywhere. MySQL also scales without loss in Performance under high load conditions. It is also easier to create backups.
