MySQL is a relational database management system based on SQL – Structured Query Language. The application is used for a wide range of purposes, including data warehousing, e-commerce, and logging applications. The most common use for mySQL however is for the purpose of a web database.
What do you dislike about the product?
The default values for configuration variables are totally impractical for production web sites, but MySQL lacks effective tools and documentation for tuning config variables for a given load.
Even with resources like High Performance MySQL and Percona's MySQL & InnoDB performance and scalability blog it's incredibly difficult to get real insight into MySQL tuning.

Recommendations to others considering the product:
I am impressed with the level of improvement in reliability and performance over the last 10 years. I can only assume this will continue. Strong community with companies like Percona and MariaDB contributing to the community and Oracle. Not we used Percona XtraDB cluster which is more complex than Vanilla MySQL, but it is a scalable HA solution.
