MySQL: Best open source DB
What do you like best about the product?
Best thing about MySQL is, It's quite easy to install and use. By using some third party tools you can make it even more cooler. e.g. mk-query-digest & mydumper. Recently, it has gained more popularity as it's being used by loads of major corporations like Twitter, Alibaba, Amazon etc.
What do you dislike about the product?
Most of the people things it's free, but it's quite expensive too. Which depends on for what you are planning to use it for. It could range from FREE to $15K+.
It somehow lacks in scaling, when it's forced to do too many operations at given time.
I don't know why MySQL is trying to do everything, which it should not. It's dependency on Addons sometimes makes task complex and hard to track and maintain.

Review of MySQL usage in Financial Services
What do you like best about the product?
MySQL is very user-friendly while at the same time being a very efficient source for creating complex queries and easily creating and interacting with new tables. Also it is very easy to use through the MAC terminal as well as through a relational database software such as Sequel Pro
What do you dislike about the product?
This is not particular to MySQL but there seems to be very subtle, but when querying, there are debilitating differences when going through SQL languages which causes disconnects and errors that take longer to debug than should be necessary.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
The main business problem I think I am able to solve in MySQL is being able to unite data to create a singular source of truth for our userbase. Whenever there are numerous tables that all contain information about a customer or a user base, but are not connected in a way that is easy and efficient to be able to answer business questions for business users, as an analyst it is very efficient for me to use MySQL to join up the relevant columns and tables from multiple databases to be able to answer specific questions business users have. For instance, if we have customer sales data in one table in a specific database, but I would like to know how this relates to the number of interactions they have had with our product, and that happens to live in another table in another DB, MySQL makes it easy to cut out the pieces that may not be needed to answer that business question, join the necessary components, and produce the most intuitive output.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Ability to hold numerous tables with a much larger data structure and data amount that currently available.
