What do you like best about the product?
I like that it's free, very fast in answer and under Oracle control. I think it's the best database to start with a new applciation.
What do you dislike about the product?
I don't like to much the PLSQL way of writing procedure. Sometimes I have to googlate to much to find the equivalent of the Oracle structures
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
The data storage in web applications
Recommendations to others considering the product:
If you use a lot of stored procedures or if the data is too high I think it's better using Oracle, in the orher case it's the best database to use

What do you like best about the product?
It is reliable and predictable beyond measure and the documentation is fabulous. I cant think of one single piece of software that is integrated so well into so many different software platforms.
What do you dislike about the product?
I'm hard pressed to criticize MySQL. It's that good. I suppose performance is always an issue but never a stumbling block.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I use it as the database for a number of different public facing web sites that use Content Managment Systems such as Drupal, Joomla, and Wordpress
Recommendations to others considering the product:

Excellent RDMS

  • October 17, 2017
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
MySQL is much cheaper to run and host in AWS that SQL Server or other relational database vendor options yet provides all the features that a full professional heavy duty database needs.
What do you dislike about the product?
The tooling and performance are not quite up to the quality of Microsoft SQL Server however that is a small price to pay really.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
MySQL stores data safely and securely for us at a cost that is not too prohibitive.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Postgres and Amazon offerings

A really powerful open source RDBMS

  • October 06, 2017
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
MySQL is the tool to go to when looking for a relational database system. Open source, mature, robust and great developer and community support. It works across many platforms and is easy to start working with.
What do you dislike about the product?
There is nothing really to dislike, it does what it says and does it really well. I have yet to come across a limitation in my usage of MySQL in the 12+ years of using it.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Database system for a variety of websites - mostly Magento setups.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
MySQL is a mature product and works really well, I have no qualms fully recommending this as a database for any web application or API.

For the longest time, a great DB product, with growing stability

What do you like best about the product?
For years, I've been using MySQL as the base for the majority of open-source products I've worked with. From installation to integration, nothing has been easier, and configuration has always been a breeze.
What do you dislike about the product?
Occasionally, and upgrade on a Ubuntu box may not work properly when automated, but there's plenty of documentation from others out there who've experienced the same thing
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Currently using it as a back-end DB for Piwik. Performance outweighs any others

Great capabilities, requires training

  • October 04, 2017
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I enjoy the ability to create queries in real time that fit my project needs.
What do you dislike about the product?
It was not an intuitive program. As a young professional I hadn't been taught SQL so I had to find free training in order to complete my project tasks.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We're able to compare and query large data sets that would have taken significantly longer with any other program. We mostly use it for research data analysis and finding potential research participants that fit eligibility requirements.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
As an opensource tool you really can't go wrong with trying it out. We've been able to enhance our data analysis greatly with this tool.
