More than a descent BI platform (review seen from a data analyst's perspective)

  • February 18, 2021
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
• Easy user-friendly model development. Bringing data from different sources is very straightforward.
• Most industry and well known sources/connectors are available.
• Easy dashboard development, however not as intuitive as in other platforms, nevertheless the documentation and learning material is more than enough to get you going within a few days.
• Simple to advanced looking dashboard development can happen within a few steps and can provide valuable insight quickly.
• Although I have only tested slightly (mainly seen demo) their platform "Data-Teams" (previously periscope) is a very promising and competitive addition. Basically it gives dashboard/BI developers the ability to use SQL, Python and R all in one environment.
• Option to setup notification alerts on widgets when a KPI meets/exceeds etc. certain criteria.
• Addons which extend the widgets that can used.
• Sisense team is very friendly and patient when it comes to supporting and helping.
• API availability to import/export and edit data, metadata and settings. It does need some more tuning and definitely better and more extensive documentation.
• Simple and effective user permission settings.
• Multiple options on connecting securely to data sources. Also Sisense's IT is very helpful and knowledgeable on that area. Whenever we had to work with them the response was very satisfactory.
What do you dislike about the product?
• Quite a few minor to medium bugs which their dev team are trying to resolve. These are nowhere near a "no-go"/blocker level, however the behavior on more advanced dashboards is inconsistent and workarounds need to be applied. I find my self troubleshooting on a weekly basis and sometimes just recreating the original approach works when previously it was not. This is sometimes quite time consuming and frustrating.
• There is no way (currently) to view the queries run behind widgets. This makes it very hard to troubleshoot or reach the desired result when things do not work as expected.
• Missing version control or link to gitHub for non-cloud-data teams (could-teams is Sisense's name of their product which incorporates SQL/Python/R in one environment). Their models/elasticubes and dashboards do not have version control.
• BloX seems to be a powerful side-tool based on MS adaptive cards which helps customize-control dashboard results even further and in some cases fill in the gaps of the default features provided by Sisense both in design and functionality. This is both a pro and a con. The biggest let down to all this is missing proper documentation and tutorials. The ones available are only introductory, leaving the user having to get through a very demanding steep curve of trying to understand and use it and in most cases through trial and error.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
• Monitor performance and create action driven reports/dashboards. E.g. volume of work, quality, utilisation, productivity etc.
• Create dashboards which help many different teams on the daily/weekly/monthly operations.
• Present a lot of the information, results, links in appropriate intuitive to understand visual graphs.
• Get quick insights in a timely and efficient manner.
• Get non-data literate individuals to understand and use dashboards to help them take objective data-driven decisions.

Great way to automate client reporting

  • February 18, 2021
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Instead of hours pulling data, manipulating Excel spreadsheets and creating PowerPoints, I have an automated dashboard that the client can access and interact with whenever they want. It's a big time saver and it's easy to duplicate dashboards and individual charts and make adjustments rather than starting from scratch. Easy to create and manipulate dashboards once you get the hang of it.
What do you dislike about the product?
I'm hoping for the future, they incorporate easier ways to format, move columns and make other aesthetic changes without writing script. I would also like an undo last action option. It would also be nice to have some pre-written script for frequently requested items instead of relying on users who may or may not have posted it online.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
The biggest problem solved is manipulating large amounts of data to large for Excel to handle without having to learn database scripting. The best benefit realized is saving hours of time per week and satisfying client needs.

My experience has been great. Lots of free webinars and the paid courses have been very informative!

  • February 18, 2021
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Free and frequent webinars. I have not had an issue on any sort of limitation that I have come up with. We use the product to help our clients gain insight into their data and have had no issues implementing any ask by our clients.
What do you dislike about the product?
Sometimes the support staff tend to misinterpret the original query and it takes a couple of iterations for them to just not forward you links to documentation that does not meet what you are asking for.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Aggregation of Customer Experience Data and delivering insights back to our clients.

Nice user interface, but not always intuitive

  • February 18, 2021
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
SSO and link with Active Directory makes it easy to add and remove users and for them to login.
Row data security when required is good.
Cloud based platform is great.
Typically, slick visualisations are able to be created.
The level of interactivity that can be created for users is good, dynamic and allows flexibility to suit varying business questions on the same dashboard.
Blox opens up more configuration possibilities once proficiency is established in using it.
The amount of customisation options allows many possibilities.
What do you dislike about the product?
Lack of in-built version control.
Needing to use REST API for some admin tasks (e.g. re-assigning folder ownership).
Bugs are discovered too frequently and resolution times can be long.
The amount of customisation options introduces more complexity, which means more can go wrong (i.e. platform updates). This can create additional rework and/or time spent chasing support for resolving business critical insight issues. It would be good if some plugins actually came inbuilt (e.g. dimension changer).
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Firstly, it helps highlight poor data quality across the organisation and this can often lead to improved data capture within business processes. When the business' data is visible to everyone or senior leadership, it can accelerate the pace of change in getting things right.
More specifically, I have worked with commercial and finance teams. In finance, the benefit has been that users are able to plan their client accounts better and make more informed decisions on what needs to be done in order to meet financial targets. For sales, reps have a near real-time view of how much of their quota they have achieved which helps influence their sales performance. This is compared to a quarterly view which was manually delivered previously and always too late for the reps to react.
