What do you like best about the product?
The best thing I liked about this is that It has better functionality, and the main thing is the community. The Github's community is the best one.
What do you dislike about the product?
The thing I dislike is that they should provide the feature of private repo for free for atleast a month.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I use it at work.
I am a web developer so I keep my content on Github, I oftenly update the repostories needed.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
One Word- Best.
I will choose github annyday over others.

Excellent version control repository hosting service

  • December 21, 2017
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
It has a powerful command line utility which is very easy for developers to use and has a lot of features that makes the developer's life much easier than the older version control repositories. Free public repos is a plus.
What do you dislike about the product?
The UI pages are very good except some pages where it could be better. For example the Pull request page to add comments could be improved a little more.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Maintaining private/public repositories and to use github for hosting my source code has really helped me host the code easily and maintain a place where the code can be demoed to our peers.

What do you like best about the product?
Tons of integrations, huge community, all developers know how to use it
What do you dislike about the product?
you have to pay to have private repositories
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Code collaboration, peer review
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Collaboration within and outside your team will be way better. There is tons of integrations out there, so you won't sweat adding 3rd party tools.

Great cloud option for Git-based source control

  • December 20, 2017
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Github does an excellent job managing our code workflow and permissions for small or large team development projects. The integrations with Continuous Integration / Continuous Development tools are broad and comprehensive. In addition, the integration with popular project management and issue tracking tools is unmatched. Github works great and integrates with most everything.

We like the pull requests feature with code review and auto-merge functionality. We also like the ability to compare previous versions and history of files.

We love that there is no check-in/checkout type thing that would lock files out for other devs. Instead, anyone can work on a file and merge it in. If two people work on the same part of the file, it will denote a merge conflict and then a human will need to fix it.
What do you dislike about the product?
There are a few issues I have with the User Interface. I feel like the Pull Request interface isn't intuitive. Also, it runs a bit more expensive than some of its competitors for small companies.

I feel like the branching interface is a bit clunky and I can never remember how to create a new branch.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We use Github for source code control for multiple client projects. This allows is to share code between multiple team members and external teams. We have improved our productivity using Github and reduced errors. We have saved money because we don't need to maintain the server anymore now that it is in the Cloud.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Public projects are free so simply create and account, get a test project, add it into Github, and give it a try.

Github is great for source control and large project management

  • December 19, 2017
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Pull request reviews are efficient and effective.
What do you dislike about the product?
Some diff comparisons have been abstracted away and are hidden. It's not easy to just compare between two diffs.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Managing source control and code review across a large number of people committing to a code base. Also release management.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Use github. It's great place to start for online code control.

Excellent Tool for Version Control

  • December 19, 2017
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I like that it's been fairly easy to get started with. It's the first and only version control software I've used but so far it's been easy enough to get started with. I like the community aspect and being able to follow other users and save repositories.
What do you dislike about the product?
So far I don't have any dislikes but I've only been using the software for about 3 months now. I'm sure I'll have new feedback once I've spent more time with it.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I'm testing new ideas for site functionality and this tool has allowed me to save different versions to come back to for reference.

Great service but expensive

  • December 19, 2017
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
The standard for Git hosting. Easy to use and lots of powerful tools.
What do you dislike about the product?
Gets very expensive if you use lots of contractors across projects. You end up paying for people even when they are not working on projects.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We're using GitHub to manage all of our code repositories and provided access to our development teams who all work remotely and are from different organisations.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Look at alternatives if you have a large team that works on projects sporadically.

My favourite hub!

  • December 19, 2017
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I like that they are always implementing new things and how open everything is. Such as with integrations, allowing you to do many things beyond just the GitHub site.

The UI is clean and easy to navigate with many useful features no matter how small. Such as assigning issues/pull requests, labels and milestones.

You can create projects, contain docs in a wiki and keep everything from one project in one place.

Milestones are a really good way to schedule important issues and put an order to all the issues. Basically cleans up the issues that are present in a more calendar format.
What do you dislike about the product?
I dislike a few things with Pull Requests, such as the way the re-assigning a code reviewer works. If you view someones code and are capable of reviewing it, there is no Add Review button unless you have been assigned by the reviewee.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We use it for our platform and to make sure we have a nice place to get code reviews done.

Github

  • December 19, 2017
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Github is always adding new useful features. It is easy to do code reviews, enforce unit tests, collaborate with the entire team and quick find and view changes.
What do you dislike about the product?
The only real complaint I have is that private repositories are only available on paid accounts, but I understand that is their business model.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Collaborating and code reviewing are made much easier with Github. Their jira integration is also great to take out the manual management of jira ticket status, just open a code review and the integration will update the jira status for you which saves alot of time and hassle.

Great source control

  • December 18, 2017

What do you like best about the product?
GitHub has the standard for CLI commands and is widely used for many open source projects.
What do you dislike about the product?
The UI is a bit clunky for me, no ability to organize your repos into projects.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Source & Version control
Recommendations to others considering the product:
If migrating from Bitbucket, there are a few tools out there to help migrate your repos
