Stable, scalable, very easy to use
What do you like best about the product?
Ably is a solid platform. It's stable, scalable, very easy to use, well documented, and it evolves constantly. The console application makes setting up integrations to cloud services very easy (we use AWS). Client libraries are performant, and we didn’t have any problems with them (we used JS/Java/Go clients). We didn’t use much customer support, but when we did, they were responsive, and helped us solve issues with ease.
We used the platform often for communcation between our services and a client facing app, and it served that purpose well.

A lot of implementation effort saved by Ably Spaces SDK
What do you like best about the product?
We're using Spaces SDK for our internal article editor. The SDK covers exactly our needs and was very simple to implement.
What do you dislike about the product?
Before the Spaces SDK, it was quite hard to implement a locking mechanism because this is one of the things which look quite easy but are hard. So my only concern is that there was no locking example or something similar before Spaces SDK :)
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We use it for a News ticker feature and locking feature in the backend.
Great product that works well and is easy to use.
What do you like best about the product?
Implementing ably was easy and straighforward. There is plenty of documentation, and everything works exactly as described. The ably team has also been great about keeping in touch to make sure they are meeing our business needs.
What do you dislike about the product?
As of now, I haven't found anything to dislike.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We use ably for sending and recieving messages, primarily for chat functionality.
Easy to use and stable like a rock
What do you like best about the product?
Several years ago we needed a way to deliver updates in real time to our frontend. We built it in days thanks to Ably Realtime. Since then we scaled our usage by orders of magnitude and Ably remained impressively stable and awlays delivered high performances.
What do you dislike about the product?
It's easy to throw more workloads at Ably but you need to keep an eye on your budget.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We use Ably to push real time updates from our backend to our frontend. Users never miss a update. Ably was easy to use and it scaled very well as our number of users increased.
Great support, excellent documentation, easy to integrate with!
What do you like best about the product?
The Ably team has been very helpful since the start of our project which gives our users a real-time interactive experience with features such as presence, chat, and ability for users to join a virtual stage. The ably documentation has been easy to find what we need with a lot of useful examples to get us started with integrating with Ably. The dev console has also been helpful with troubleshooting during our build phases. Moreover, the Ably team has been super responsive and quick to answer any questions we have about our tech solutions with Ably. They have guided us effectively. I’m also very impressed at how Ryan Landes has been effective at facilitating every discussion and quick to setup meetings with the right people to help us move quickly. I have nothing but great things to say about our experience with Ably!
What do you dislike about the product?
Haven't encountered any significant issues.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
They are helping us with making our interactive features such as chat and presence as smooth as possible. Making sure the messages are delivered successfully and rapidly.
Great realtime pubsub platform
What do you like best about the product?
The breadth of platform/client support and the extensive technogy background of the realtime platform. We're in production with Ably since 3 years and it has performed like a champ ever since. Support and tech assistance were great too in cases where we needed them.
What do you dislike about the product?
Metering by channels made us architect towards a model with the least channels used, rather than the most optimal number of channels for publishers/subscribers.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Real time push notifications to connected clients for IoT command&control and delivery of status events.
Complete and easy to use platform for realtime
What do you like best about the product?
Ease of use and number of available features
What do you dislike about the product?
A more organized docs section would be better for first time users
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It would be too complex to reate such a system by ourselves
Great support, quick reaction time, extensively documented
What do you like best about the product?
Well-documented and easily integrated into our platform. We even had contact with a number of Ably employees who were interested in our approach to a problem as they are working on an even more simplified out-of-the-box solution which we will try out in the coming weeks.
What do you dislike about the product?
The pricing structure and rate limits for channels / messages / presences could be made a little bit clearer, but nothing an email couldn't solve in a short time.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Internally: real-time locking of resources (no resource should be edited by more than one person), especially considering closing a browser tab should release the resource
Externally: push notifications, real-time updates for a live-ticker for sports or other events.

Excellent SDK and Docs enabling a rapid spike to full release
What do you like best about the product?
We spiked a few of the leading realtime providers and ably was the clear winner amongst the developers involved.
The SDK and documention are easily the best of the ones we tried. We went from spike to fully integrated and functional in a couple of weeks.
Since then it's all just worked and we haven't had any issues.
Communication/support have also been good.

What do you dislike about the product?
Can't really think of much to put here since we have had no issues so far.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
* Enabling websockets at scale.
* Presences api to drive FOMO on pages.
* Notifications.

Quick go-to-market, resonable pricing and great support
What do you like best about the product?
Ably provides a killer feature set, allowing our team to focus on building great solutions instead of reinventing the real-time wheel.
When we decided to switch to a real-time provider instead of our in-house websocket solution we first landed at Pusher, which we very quickly felt like we outgrew.
The lack of message retention in Pusher was a dealbreaker for us, but ably solved this problem in just a few lines of code.
Ably support is always quick to respond and not afraid to give technical answers, something I as a developer highly appreciates. When you talk to Ablys support you understand that you're actually talking to someone that knows the system they're supporting, rather than someone just reading the manual back to you.

What do you dislike about the product?
A more advanced "dev console" environment would be of big help to me as a frontend/app developer.
It is now always convenient or possible to wait for the backend dev to implement the real-time solution, so being able to quickly send out mock data saves a lot of time and headaches.

What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We replaced an in-house developed Websocket solution with Ably and freed up a lot of time for both development and support.
