Great & sturdy notifications streaming solution
What do you like best about the product?
The service is resilient. It can be used via HTTP/SSE, without depending on an SDK, which makes it an ideal choice for libraries that need this functionality. Customer support is outstanding
What do you dislike about the product?
Nothing there to dislike. It would be nice to have more control over when/how channels are created/activated based on messages being published and subscriptors
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It' keeps our SDK's targeting rules up-to-date by letting them know when changes are available. This helps us reduce traffic in our servers, and minimize the time taken for a customer's application to see their changes propagated.
It just works, it's made building a real time platform look easy.
What do you like best about the product?
It's a simple solution to a complicated problem. Install a library on both sides of the connection, and you're done.
What do you dislike about the product?
It's quite an opaque implementation; occasionally, a detail leaks out and can be confusing, but it is easily solved with the great support team.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
The monitoring, availability, and scalability of that part of the product problem are gone, I check the dashboard to see how it's doing and that's all I have to worry about.

Above and beyond customer support
What do you like best about the product?
Ably has been a great product to use in our application, but the customer support makes them stand out in my eyes. While integrating ably-cocoa into our iOS application, we found an issue that we weren't able to resolve on our own. We were able to quickly hop on a call with Ably engineers to help diagnose the issue and within 48 hours, it was identified and fixed. The Ably team was incredibly helpful, friendly, and FAST! Typically, it's hard to get support from third-party vendors, but the turnaround on this fix was lightning fast and rock-solid. Kudos to the team!
What do you dislike about the product?
We haven't seen any issues that Ably hasn't been able to help us resolve.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?

Ideal service vendor, in every metric
What do you like best about the product?
Ably just has it all figured out. Their technology is competitive with the industry, and their suite of features all work reliably.
Dashboards, customer support, customer success, it's all there.
Developer friendliness ended up being the big deciding factor for us, our developers found the integrations incredibly easy, with solid documentation.
Realtime events is a bit of a crowded space, with a lot of vendors offering similar features. Ably has been able to successfully find the details to differentiate themselves

We use Ably for a realtime gaming application for the education market and like the payload size, the speed, and the great customer support. Support is proactive.

No real issues. We need to be careful not to hit the hard limits in our plan but Ably has helped us size the right plan.

We found it helpful to use the free tier to learn about Ably and make sure it would work in our application.
Ably Has Taken The Hard Parts and Made it Easy
What do you like best about the product?
Ably Realtime allows us to get real-time updates without having to rely on subscribing to DB updates. We were able to decouple the existing app from expensive DB read/writes and simply listen for published messages. The message quota limits are significant enough that we will probably never reach the limit. Ably also takes the pain out of setting up our own SQS, which is huge. The documentation is great for a basic setup. Support responses are quick with helpful information even on the Free Tier accounts.
What do you dislike about the product?
While the documentation is great, a Google search of specific questions/issues is sparse. There is no Discord or Slack community for real-life questions. The Support page refers you to Stack Overflow, although we have found those to be mostly unhelpful.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
As mentioned, we were able to decouple the application from being required to do expensive DB read/writes and simply pass messages to connected clients. This has greatly reduced the reliance on the DB and has reduced the DB loads by 300%!
