Real-time, Real Easy!
What do you like best about the product?
Ably offers a simple yet power and reliable infrastructure for realtime use cases, with a very well-designed and developer friendly platform. Our engineers are hard to please, but they praised Ably for the ease of use in integrating with our platform and building an implementation on top of, including several options for supported languages and frameworks! Ably have also been extremely helpful, proactive and collaborative in working with us over several years of partnership now, always friendly faces that are ready to help us out.
What do you dislike about the product?
Honestly there's very little we haven't enjoyed about our work with Ably to date, perhaps the only minor gripe is that when we onboarded Ably they hadn't yet built out some of the plug-and-play application examples we could've made use of (ie a realtime chat client), but they've added a lot more since then, and with the ease of integration it didn't take us too long to roll our own - I encourage Ably to keep building more customisable off-the-shelf solutions to accelerate value for your customers!
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Delivering a realtime pub-sub infrastructure for us unlocked the ability to offer real time, multi-person group chat and feed functionality within our platform that would've taken us months to roll ourselves, and reduces cost of maintaining such a solution. We are exploring the potential of further use cases for Ably that are mission-critical to our business, which is a testament to our belief in their platform and them as a vendor!
Very reliable and great onboarding
What do you like best about the product?
We chose Ably on our organization for their reliability. During our implementation phase, we were onboarded and guided by very smart people, which impressed on us the confidence to see that they really know what they are doing and that they are serious about their reliability promises.
What do you dislike about the product?
Scaling up our usage of Ably requires a lot of attention to the pricing model.

Delivering billions of messages per day to our client applications

What do you like best about the product?
We leverage Ably extensively in the new TouchTunes iOS and Android mobile app. Ease of integration and support, rock solid performance and elasticity, and a reasonable pricing strategy were key criteria in our selection of Ably about a year ago.
Ably support has been responsive and competent, and working with Ably has felt more like a partnership than a client-vendor engagement. The product performs well under load, and the interaction model is well designed.

Newer features generally appear for web clients with months lag for iOS and Android clients.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Reliable, fast messaging from backend to one or many clients.

Ease of integration, reliability, and great support.

Had to get the quotas correct for our usage which took some tweaking, but after that, it was smooth sailing.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Ably's WebSocket support is top notch and allows us to focus on solving the business needs instead of maintaining and scaling a WebSocket layer in our infrastructure.

What do you like best about the product?
Ably makes realtime messaging really easy. Building and hosting this ourselves (across the globe) would be a nightmare.

It's not exactly dirt-cheap, but I guess that's the price to pay for 100s of millions of messages we need to send every month.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?

What do you like best about the product?
Seamless way in which it handles scale. We have a lot of spiky request but the reliability of Ably is what sets them apart.
What do you dislike about the product?
Overall the cost factor is a bit for us considering we are startup in growing face but the overal experience makes it worth it.

We use ably to help restaurants stay on top of their online orders received from various food aggregators.
Excellent performance, feature set, value, and developer support
What do you like best about the product?
Our product provides real-time reproduction of keystrokes from one client's keyboard to the displays of all others. For our end-users, who rely on our product as their primary means of communication on a continual basis, the most important feature of Ably is its incredible speed and reliability across many geographies. For our developers, the most important feature of Ably has been its ease of integration into many mobile platforms and servers (iOS, web, linux) using many different programming languages (Swift, Javascript, Go).
The Ably SDKs are well documented and easy to use, and the implementation behaves exactly as expected from the docs. We have been delighted with the support provided by the Ably team, who are available seemingly day and night. And the few times we've had questions in their off hours, the Ably community on Discord has been very helpful.
Last but certainly not least, we were able to develop our entire app and test it with users in production environments before we ever committed to a paid contract with Ably. This allowed us to fully explore the platform without the time pressure of a "free trial period." As an open-source provider on a shoestring budget, this set Ably well apart from other providers we looked at.

What do you dislike about the product?
Our only complaint has been the lack of a comprehensive glossary/index to all the SDK docs. There is an incredible wealth of documentation available, but because of the specialized vocabulary, it's not always easy to know what to search for. Luckily, the Ably support team - which chats with you in real time when you submit a question - is always able to point you in the right direction.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Our product services the non-verbal community, enabling users who can't speak to participate in spoken conversations by typing their part and having their typing show up in real time on the devices of speaking participants. Our most critical business need is for every single keystroke to appear instantly (and reliably) on the screens of multiple participants spread over many geographies. Ably excels at this kind of realtime delivery of small packets of information. Without this speed and reliability, our users could not communicate effectively.
Incredibly stable and reliable service and very easy to implement
What do you like best about the product?
We send millions of messages via Ably and have never encountered any problems that have been a fault of theirs. The documentation is extreemly clear and accurate, providing great examples of how to solve certain problems you might encounter. The web console is a very useful tool for debugging and helps us clearly determine what messages are being sent when.
I'd highly recommend Ably to anyone looking to remove the hassle of implementing websocket connection, allowing for more time to focus on building fast reliable products.

What do you dislike about the product?
The analytical data you get out could be improved, however I know there is something in the works from that on their end as we speak.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Ably solves the problem of implementing the infastructure to delivery millions of realtime messages at sudden spikes. Our platform has a very diverse use and can go from extreemly quiet, to extreemly busy.
Ably takes away the headache for us of needing to worry about how the websocket connections will be established and maintained and allows us to focus on just implementing the messages where we need them.

Easy to use API
What do you like best about the product?
The detailed documentation with examples makes it easy to use and integrate with other systems.
What do you dislike about the product?
It would be helpful to have more examples in Javascript/JQuery.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Establishing a communication channel between two or more entities. The WebSocket connection maintenance and its fallback management. The History feature is really helpful in our requirement.
Great tool for real time communication; Support is great too
What do you like best about the product?
Ably is a great tool for real-time communication. We have been using it for our client's EduTech Portal for the last 4 years. The support is great too. It integrates well with other technologies, easy to implement.
What do you dislike about the product?
I am not able to find any issues with Ably so far.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
To communicate to the user devices in real-time, and reliably was our requirement which ably has fulfilled.
