Quick, easy route to your own OSM server

This package does exactly what it says, with no fuss. I tried it with very little experience of AWS, and was retrieving data from my own server within 20 minutes. As a contrast, if you follow the Overpass wiki for installation from scratch you will be nearer to 12 hours, and you'll need some unix experience for that route.

I was looking for a static snapshot, with areas, so for 5 stars, I would have liked options (perhaps a choice of AMIs) to have areas on/off and db-updates on/off. Sure, you can enable/disable these things with console access, but if you're comfortable with consoles, PuTTY, SSH and ubuntu then you're probably going to be building from scratch (as I did in the end).

Thank you very much for the review. > I was looking for a static snapshot, with areas Unfortunately, currently the support for areas in this AMI is a technical limitations on the database cloning process see: https://github.com/drolbr/Overpass-API/issues/564 It's conceivable that future builds might have this, but I'll need to look into the feasibility of it. > I would have liked options (perhaps a choice of AMIs) to have areas on/off and db-updates on/off. It should be possible to do both of the above with the user data option when launching the ec2 instance
