Resource allocation spreadsheet, with super-powers

  • August 30, 2023
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Float clearly helps with resources allocation within my department, simplyfying the work with the other managers and showing in a crystal clear way what the priorities should be to anyone.
What do you dislike about the product?
The calendar metaphor: I don't care if a resource works on a project on monday or friday, this is not how allocation usually works, that's micromanagement!
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Allocate resources on different projects, tweaking hours to reflect the business priorities.

What do you like best about the product?
It's web based and easy to use. You can track based on projects or people.
What do you dislike about the product?
You cannot see the projection of the finance accurately as if team members forget to log their time. This is a big disadvantage and would be the reason why wouldn't reccomend.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Keeping on top of team performance.
Creating resource allocations
Seeing other peoples timeline

    Computer Software

Simple visual planning tool

  • August 29, 2023
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I can see visually the workflow of the full team in one view. Easy to update/ change projects/ resource quickly and easily. Have not used a competitor tool for this.
What do you dislike about the product?
Would prefer the 'and/or' filter to default to 'or' instead of 'and'. Find it difficult to see easily how many people hours have been assigned to a project, which would be really useful from a budgetting perspective.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Planning the resource of the team in advance, getting a clear view across multiple expertise. Not necessarily more productive, but definitely better organised.

Float is great without trying to be everything

  • August 29, 2023
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Float is super easy to use! It's valuable for our team to track resources across projects and issues. We can easily see and modify resource allocations in an appealing visual UI that also has all needed details. Recent platform updates allowing us to assign multiple resources to a task and to duplicate allocations across multiple weeks are very helpful and welcomed! I'm glad that Float doesn't try to do more than it does - we don't need it to also priduce Gantt charts or track actual time spent - we have other tools for those, and such features would risk bogging down a simple yet powerful product.
What do you dislike about the product?
My main complaint is that the UI for toggling between different modes (add/edit, split, link, etc.) is a bit clunky - it requires right-clicking an existing allocation block, but sometimes acts weird, especially when using a trackpad that requires ctrl-click. Also, when creating a new project or client, the system defaults to limited access rather than all-organization access, and so we often have to go and request edit access to projects that should be editable by default. But these issues are minor compared to the overall usefulness of the platform!
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We need a way to quickly and easily view and edit resource allocation across multiple projects and producers - Float really excels at this. It's much better than other methods we've used including spreadsheets and Atlassian Confluence.

An Efficient Tool for Time Management and Collaborative Projects

  • August 29, 2023
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
As an UX/UI designer in a company of 50 people, I find Float app extremely helpful for managing my time and collaborating on projects with my colleagues. The app's user interface is simple and sleek, and I really appreciate that everything is organized in an intuitive manner. One of the best things about Float is the ease with which I can create and assign tasks, and track the progress of different projects. Overall, using Float has helped me stay on top of deadlines and work more efficiently.
What do you dislike about the product?
However, there are a few downsides to using Float that are worth mentioning. First off, the app can be a bit slow and clunky at times, especially when switching between screens.
Another issue is that the app is not as customizable as I would like it to be - I would love to be able to personalize certain features to fit my working style better.
Overall, while there are definitely some areas for improvement, I would still recommend Float as a solid tool for time management and collaborative projects.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Float is primarily solving the problem of project management for businesses, specifically the need to manage and optimize their resources effectively. Another great feature that Float offers is the ability to plan resources across multiple projects. Managing resources across multiple projects can be an overwhelming task but Float simplifies the process by giving you a clear overview of the various projects, their timelines, and the resources being used. Float also allows me to track the progress of a project, making it easier to identify potential bottlenecks or delays in development. This allows me to quickly pivot and adjust project timelines to ensure smooth project completions.

- Inconsistent realtime updates when editing data together with others
- Weird behavior for inputs into the schedule (hours affects days, days affects hours)
- Inconsistencies when using the API (tasks/phases not being applied)
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?

A very useful tool to manage resources

  • August 29, 2023
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
The leads of our team use Float to manage the allocation of their resouces and share the planning with the head of department. It's very easy and intuitive to use.
What do you dislike about the product?
There are no major issues — sometimes it lags when amending the allocation but that's all that comes to my mind.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Without Float, it wasn't easy to be aligned on who was doing what. Float makes it easy to manage the time of the resources, know who is overloaded and who is not, and make sure that the work is well distributed among everyone.
