Float day by day

  • August 09, 2024
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
It is possible to manage well which projects I dedicate more time to and how much time I remain idle, in addition to giving a report to my immediate manager without the need to waste time in a meeting. I use Float every day with ease, and so far, whenever I needed support from Float, I was well attended to, and at the time of starting to use it, it was easy to implement and integrate with my projects.
What do you dislike about the product?
Sometimes I find it difficult to delete tasks that no longer need to appear on the list, and this makes it a bit hard to find the new ones.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Float helps me give daily reports to my manager, and with that, I can save time and improve my performance.

My Review - 8/9

  • August 09, 2024
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Float is great for its simplicity and effectiveness in managing project timelines and team resources. Its intuitive interface and clear visualization of schedules make it easy to understand and use, which is crucial for keeping projects on track and ensuring team members are allocated appropriately.
What do you dislike about the product?
One downside of Float is that while it excels at resource scheduling, it can lack some advanced project management features, such as detailed task tracking or integration with broader project management tools. Additionally, its reporting capabilities might feel limited if you need in-depth analytics or custom reports, which could be a drawback for teams that rely heavily on data-driven decisions.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Float solves the problem of resource management and scheduling by providing a clear, visual way to allocate the team members and track project timelines. It helps prevent overallocation or underutilization of resources, ensuring that team members are working on the right tasks at the right time.

Essential tool for project scheduling for consulting business

  • August 09, 2024
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I use Float extensively for both managing project assignments as well as project phases. I have not found a better way to manage this aspect of my business, and all at a relatively reasonable price. When things are busy and I have to schedule projects out months in advance, I rely completely on Float to keep things straight. I then review the Float schedule with my team on a weekly basis so everyone knows their schedule in advance.
What do you dislike about the product?
I originally picked Float because it was simple and easy to personalize. As they continue to release new versions it is getting harder and harder to do things they way I want. As of know I have figured out some work arounds, but I just hope they don't try to be like everyone else and make the process to rigid for how I want to use it.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I manage a small team of IT consultants and I use Float to keep track of resource assignments as well as tracking internal milestones for each project. This way I always have a single source of truth for everyone's schedule and can quickly see where openings are, or where a resources is getting overloaded and I need to move proejcts to a different resource. It is the easiest for way me to schedule projects months in advance and not forget anything in the process.

A great app, but can be better

What do you like best about the product?
I like that Float brings information in my Google Calendar, because it makes timekeeping within it much easier.
What do you dislike about the product?
The fact that I can't personalize the information that Float pulls of my Google calendar. For example, I would like to customize a date for him to start pulling everything and organizing it correctly, but I can't. And I would like you to filter with more word filters
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Float solves my timekeeping in an easier and more dynamic way. And that helps me a lot to make the process easier. But I think there's still a lot to improve. Another thing that I think could improve is the fact that, if I update an event on my Google Calendar, all past notes on Float will be impacted, and I think this shouldn't happen, from the moment I entered the time there .

Simple and easy to use but needs some small improvements

What do you like best about the product?
Float has an intuitive interface, it's easy to navigate and learn how to use. It integrates with jira, which makes it much faster to input the tasks.
What do you dislike about the product?
There isn't a field that displays the total scheduled time for each day, you need to go to reports or to select the days in order to have this information displayer above, wich adds some work when planning the schedule according to the total amount of hours that you're planing to spend per day.
Also sometimes users may happen to forget to log times and there is nothing in the interface that prevents this mistake.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It creates more visibility to managers to understand how much time the tasks are demanding across all projects, summed to other internal tasks and even time-offs.

Fundamentally easy-to-use and report off of

What do you like best about the product?
Float stands out from the crowd of resource management tools with its strong UI/UX and their very helpful, responsive customer support. Just this alone made onboarding and implementing the system very quick for our team. The system is easy to navigate and our users find it easy to complete all of the work that they need to at once. I personally find it intuitive to add hours to someone's schedule and add/edit nested details/projects without having to navigate to another screen. While evaluating our options, I felt that managing our projections for company resources was much easier than some of the other competitors, especially when it came to the tag and department management systems. The cherry on top was the ability to sync users and projects from Jira which sped up our onboarding process.
What do you dislike about the product?
A lot of the functionality is fairly shallow. There aren't a lot of fields or the option to add custom fields to all users and departments. Tag management would be much improved if there was functionality around hierarchy added. In a set of allocated hours that has multiple users attached it, I should be able to unlink the users whilst retaining the same allocation for each user. Right now, unlinking the users from the allocation removes hours for them without any option to keep. Access management and visibility should have more granular options including: restricting projects from being seen on any view or search by non-assigned users, the ability to remove archived projects and other records from auto-fills, and the ability to restrict any manager to only seeing their resources.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Being able to project where resources may land in the future is incredibly important for any company with multiple active and pending projects. Float is helping us effectively plan by providing an easy way for all managers to detail their expectations, view others' expectations, and plan together on where resources will ultimately be spending their time.
