The answer to working remotely effectively

  • November 11, 2020
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
We've been able to use the KMS Go app to gather user generated content easily throughout lockdown and still be able to deliver good quality content to our audience. The new Kaltura Rooms has also enabled us to continue delivery of interactive sessions online, with media rich resources.
What do you dislike about the product?
As with any online technology there can be bugs on initial deployment, but these are usually resolved promptly.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
These tools have enabled us to work remotely effectively and efficiently.

Very stable feature rich virtual classroom solution

What do you like best about the product?
Kaltura is very stable and is easy to use, once it is configured how you want it to be. The tool is incredibly robust and can do so many things, we don't use a lot of it yet, but hope to in the future.
What do you dislike about the product?
The worst thing about the tool is that you cannot control a participant desktop. That and the number one request we get is to have backgrounds.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
In the COVID world we can take what was traditionally classroom training to the cloud and still teach our customers. The main benefit is that Kaltura is so flexible, we can make it meet our needs, often many different ways.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
The support and onboarding makes it much easier to implement. Having a person ready and willing to help while getting started is amazing.

Strong CMS

What do you like best about the product?
Kaltura's content management system (KMC) solves the problem of managing your content on your own by having it managed in the cloud.
In addition, their MediaSpace product allows us to integrate our platform to serve users with more capabilities by joining the platforms' abilities together.
What do you dislike about the product?
Although trying to give you all the flexibility of managing your content, it's becoming too complicated in some areas. Specifically in their MediaSpace product, it becomes less intuitive for usage (although eventually you get used to everything).
In addition, from my experience, the MediaSpace product is relatively slow (KMC is fine).
The user management is also tricky. The MediaSpace product's users administration is really not intuitive, and combining the fact that you can't use the same users you've already defined in KMC / MediaSpace in both products - makes it even more complicated and confusing.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Kaltura's content management system (KMC) solves the problem of managing your content on your own by having it managed in the cloud. Managing your content on your own requires dealing with many aspects (storage, network, streaming, security, analytics and more) which Kaltura spares you from dealing with.
In addition, their MediaSpace product allows us to integrate our platform to serve users with more capabilities by joining the platforms' abilities together.
By having a "testing account" defined in Kaltura, we're managing to develop new abilities in our integration and release them to public only once ready.
Their filtering abilities (or "search refinements") are awesome and include also the params we supply from the integration with our platform, which is really helpful in debugging.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
It's a strong CMS platform and their team is very responsive

Great software, but development still needed to make it more user friendly

What do you like best about the product?
Kaltura is a media server solution which allows users to upload and stream content well, with an integration with Moodle. Kaltura has a broad range of options which can be configured in the KMF.
What do you dislike about the product?
Quite a few clicks to do any one thing. Simple uploads and embeds used to be possible via a few clicks in the old media server which we used, however after that was sunsetted, we found things a bit harder to explain to users (as it was a few extra steps / options hidden away a bit more).
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We have enabled automated captioning which is great. Other vendors (such as Echo360) charge for automated captioning, so it's great that we can improve accessibility for our users without incurring extra charges. We are now trying to tackle the problem of users improving accuracy of transcripts.

Kaltura - The Best Thing That Has Happened to Classroom Lectures

  • October 16, 2019
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Ability to screen record with voice over for PowerPoint, etc. presentations. This allows for lectures, talks, etc. to be reviewed at a later time with all annotations and presented information in addition to the verbal content.
What do you dislike about the product?
The app is poorly optimized for certain platforms (i.e. iPad). Playing audio while sharing screen with other programs often results in poor replay quality and even app failure. Sometimes your location within the presentation is lost and you have to find your place again.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Kaltura allows for the uploading of presented material for subsequent viewing at one's own pace/convenience.

Very user friendly!

What do you like best about the product?
I really like how simple it is to use Kaltura Capture. You open it, select your source, and click record! It's that simple. The interface is nice and simple and it's easy to select one or multiple video sources, such as monitors or webcams. Also, the quality is great. If file size is a concern, you can downgrade the quality of the video and audio in the settings easily.
What do you dislike about the product?
It is really annoying that Kaltura Capture defaults to start every time I boot my PC. There is not a simple way to change this setting. I had to go to my windows boot menu to change this.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I am able to create presentations quickly and easily and then upload them to a shared drive automatically. While platforms like Zoom can accomplish this as well, Kaltura pairs nicely with other applications, like MediaSpace to quickly and automatically upload content into a third party platform. When working across the country with multiple sites, this is extremely helpful to communicate to many people, especially when they're working remotely.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
One of the nice things about Kaltura is that you can capture multiple screens at one time. The one thing that you need to be aware of, however, is that all of the screens are recording simultaneously for the duration of the video. So, you can't switch back and forth between screens. This is not necessarily a deal breaker by any means, just something to be aware of as you are making videos.

What do you like best about the product?
The flexibility to provide various mediaspace sites ad well as integrate into many LMS products has been very valuable to us.
What do you dislike about the product?
Support can be a bit challenging at times, as they are based in Israel, meaning responses to tickets usually come in during non business hours here.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Storege and playback of a vast library of multimedia content in a secure environment has been very beneficial.
