Better os for developers

  • April 21, 2022
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
If you are developer and you are not fond of gaming then blindly go for any linux distro(Ubuntu for beginners)
The main point of using any linux distro is the privacy and customisation. You can use whatever desktop environment you want may be it's gnome or kde plasma. Everything you can do with linux OS. After using Ubuntu as my primary os I totally forget about windows.
What do you dislike about the product?
Almost nothing. But if you are beginner then you may face issue as for now linux is far better but sometimes you need to face problem.A simple example would be it can be crash but you can't complain as it's open source and free but one pluspoint is what there is a very large community.
Linux means you need to have skill so simple.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Let me tell you a interesting point what if I tell you that you can make your pc look like Mac os. If you are using gnome there are lots of extensions out there which you can use and make your work productive.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Go ahead if you want to try some new things.

Ubuntu - Working Experience

  • April 21, 2022
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
The terminal of Ubuntu over the cmd in windows. The terminal is the best thing I have used in Ubuntu. This is developer-friendly and allows a lot of customizations.
What do you dislike about the product?
UI and gesture could be better as MacOS beats Ubuntu here. Some more gestures should be added which help developers with faster development and workspace switching.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Development, testing and automation of various process in software development. Monitoring and job scheduling are also part of the problems which we are solving on this OS.

Great OS for developers!

  • April 21, 2022
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Ubuntu is by far one of the most popular and widely used Linux distros. It's apt package manager is just amazing, with a simple command line command I can install any packages, apps, dependencies etc.
What do you dislike about the product?
They reliance on apt package manager is too deep i.e. if anything were to go wrong all of the OS would be useless. I once accidentally uninstalled the core apt package and there was no way to reinstall it, I had to format the whole system and reinstall Ubuntu again.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I used Ubuntu for developing a typescript based visual programming platform that included a lot of browser intensive tasks alongwith some ML optimizations.

Ubuntu is a free and open-source operating system and runs on most computer

  • April 20, 2022
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Ubuntu has been a steady force in the open source community for years now. Also, It comes with ZFS, a combined file system and logical volume manager, which is extremely efficient and powerful.
What do you dislike about the product?
If you've been using Ubuntu on the desktop or server for a while, you may not find enough new in the release to tempt you to upgrade. Also, newer versions tend to no longer support older computers. Which is a little disappointing for a Linux distribution
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I have always loved ubuntu and use it everyday. The fact that it is free and runs on older hardware is great. I dual boot mine with Windows 10. I would recommend this OS for only older machines
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Ubuntu is a fantastic operating system. I use it everyday as a dual boot option on my laptop and desktop. It's so easy to use and works great. It's sleek design is also very appealing and it's great for gaming.

Ubuntu Linux Server

  • April 20, 2022
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Ubuntu Linux Server is the only real free Linux OS. And it is the best Linux for personal computing.
What do you dislike about the product?
The Apache config file structure is changed too much from the standard apache installation.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I am using Ubuntu for LAMP applications. It is totally free of charge, I don't need to worry about being forced to pay later (referring to what Oracle does to Java SE).
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Ubuntu Server is good for LAMP and is popular on AWS. But not many commercial RDBMSs are certified on it.
