Open source Platform for General and Professional User

  • December 17, 2021
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Open-source, so it is free to use and modify as per needs. User-friendly and best GUI for general-purpose users as well. It will be a great choice free of cost.
What do you dislike about the product?
Some people might feel it challenging to install programs through terminals. A basic understanding of commands is needed while installing some programs/software.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I use it for general purposes like surfing the internet, development and software deployment, and long-running background processes like data integration tasks. Able to use it for free if I used windows for the same job, I had to pay the licensing fee, etc...

Ubuntu: everything you could ever need

  • December 16, 2021
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
The user interface is really easy to use, installing software is also very simple. The community is really active, so there's always someone who had Ubuntu-related issues.
What do you dislike about the product?
Some apps are not available, and alternatives are not as good. That's a problem with linux in general, but ubuntu alleviates it a bit by having support for many applications. The OS is also hard to customize.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Most open-source software and development is on Ubuntu. Any developer needs Linux, and Ubuntu is by far the easiest way to have Linux. Ubuntu comes with all the toolchains necessary to write good software.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Know how to manage a disk if using another OS. Otherwise it's well documented

Pretty easy to use, but has a lot of extras that make it too overwhelming to use

  • December 16, 2021
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
That is an excellent and classical Linux distributive. It performs well on lower spec computers and provides a lot of flexibility with a large amount of additional software available in the store. Overall, it has notable features, good built-in software for day-to-day tasks, and an easy way to start using the OS. Installing the OS does not require any additional knowledge.
What do you dislike about the product?
Many features either did not work well or were too overwhelming to use. System updates are slow. A lot of regular devices do not have drivers for this OS (printers, scaners etc). Some internal hardware is not supported by Ubuntu as well.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Ubuntu desktop was the primary operating system for some laptops and computers, where we did not need any special software and could use only the web browser. We used to host a web server and support a database as well.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Look at other distros, as many are similar to Ubuntu Desktop but not as condescending. Even though overall Ubuntu is an excellent operating system, it may give a lot of issues when trying to use with some specialized software from the Unix world, as well as does not provide good enough support for other types of applications.

Best in Market for Developers

  • December 16, 2021
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
The best part about using ubuntu is that you have a user-friendly interface and active websites solving issues or queries of users.
The system is robust compared to all the other operating systems out in the market. I would recommend developers to you it.
What do you dislike about the product?
A new user might get puzzled if he mistakenly changes permissions of files and folders, which might give them nightmares to fix.
You will find solutions on the internet that would be helpful to overcome such common mistakes.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I have worked on ubuntu since I started my development career; it's easy to use.
You need to run commands to install pretty much everything.
It saves development costs as it's open-source.

excellent operating system.

  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Open-source. We can change any config and settings as per our requirement. and it's quite easy. we can easily manage our applications and data. very easy to learn.
What do you dislike about the product?
Ubuntu stores some config data and metadata whenever we remove some module/software so if we want to install the same module/software then we have to manually remove that configs.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We can set up open-source projects with any flavor of Linux and we can modify as per our requirement. Ubuntu provides full base modification permission as well so its easy to manage things.

My go-to OS

  • December 16, 2021
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Relative to Windows: I get control -- what my OS is doing on my computer, where my files go, how it boots. Everything is actually visible.
Relative to other Linux distros: Well, if you google "How do I do ___ on Linux?" you will probably find answers saying "This is how you do it on Ubuntu".
What do you dislike about the product?
Vanilla Ubuntu is produced by Canonical, which does mean it ships with some of Canonical's "bloat". This is still an order of magnitude less bloat than, say, OS X or Windows, but it's there. If this bothers you, it's relatively easy to scrub; or you could consider another Debian distro, like Mint.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
For me personally, it's my everyday work machine. It's hard to compete with it if you're interested in ML, certainly. Other places I've worked also had a lot of toolchains setup on Linux that we specific to Ubuntu.

Ubuntu: An Excellent Operating System for Business and Personal Uses

  • December 15, 2021
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Before my current job, I had been a Windows user my entire life, and I love that Ubuntu has far less bloatware than Windows and the operating system feels far less intrusive and lightweight. I also enjoy using the terminal on Ubuntu and it plays a much more significant role on Ubuntu than on Windows or Mac.
What do you dislike about the product?
My only real complaint with Ubuntu is that some software isn't compatible with the operating system, forcing you to run it on a virtual machine or special software like Wine.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Many people at my company exclusively use Linux to do many essential tasks to help create a robust self-driving vehicle platform, including myself. Ubuntu's lightweight framework makes it easy for our computers to perform computationally expensive tasks all day.

The most user friendly Linux OS out there

  • December 14, 2021
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
1. The user interface is one of the best . Its fast, clean and is not as resource hungry as windows.

2. It being a linus os is very secure. The way ubuntu handles permissions is very clear .

3. I love developer tools available in ubuntu. Although all of them are available in windows but ubuntu being a linux os still edges as a coding machine since all servers run Linux
What do you dislike about the product?
1. Lack of games which is also improving with proton layer

2. App selection . Lack of Photoshop still hurts linux

3. Learning curve is definitely there if a normal windows user wants to shift to linux
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
A free operating system for my machines that provide a stable platform for web programming. I save licence fee of windows, anti virus and other stuff on Linux
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Make app store better . Invest in bringing developers to platform
