Best WSL till date!

  • December 12, 2020
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
When I started my ruby on rails journey, I had a windows laptop. But setup of rails required linux based terminal. Windows didn't had it. Seniors told me to use Ubuntu server. I was so much excited to finally develop rails based application using Ubuntu Server. I made it easier for. Later on I installed ubuntu OS itself as WSL is still not fast enough for rails development.
What do you dislike about the product?
Overall, need to improve basic color themes otherwise it's best for it's purpose.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
For developing and debugging rails which requires linux based terminal. Ubuntu server had all benefits which windows os is lacking currently
Recommendations to others considering the product:
If you don't have mac, Still you want to develop rails based applications or tool that required linux base system and you are a windows user, then don't worry. Ubuntu server is savior for you all. Just install and run it windows. There might be some complications due to windows but you will able to all such things with ubuntu. Just go for it.

  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
The flexibility it provides to tweak and modify the system is phenomenal. You get a lot of control of what's going on under the hood.
What do you dislike about the product?
The support forums are nerdy and hard to understand at times. It is not very beginner user friendly. Troubleshooting a problem might be difficult and require deep knowledge of the operating system and experience with administering Linux devices.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Some business applications run better Under Ubuntu and are the preferred system for them. I use Graylog and Observium servers for example. Our business applications are also running under Ubuntu.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Ubuntu is great for business applications and software development environment. Make sure you hire experienced Linux system admins when building IT infrastructure based on Unix-like OS.

Ubuntu - Linux Operating System distribution

  • December 09, 2020
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Ubuntu has a better advantage than any other Linux distribution . No distribution is better than each other whether it’s fedora , Ubuntu , mint or others . all are equivalent . But Ubuntu has advantages over other Linux distribution , if i compare Fedora with Ubuntu , Fedora a poor choice for product development e.g. embedded systems , people used to say fedora is fast in fixing things but fedora also fast in breaking things . Ubuntu advantage is large based of package with stability which fedora or other do miss it .Ubuntu maintain consistency when it’s about fixing things but others do break things quicker than ubuntu even they fix quick
What do you dislike about the product?
Application or file searching on Ubuntu 17/18.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Tried latest stable kernel version in Ubuntu 16. RTLink Wifi driver is added as kernel driver instead of module and made my Ubuntu desktop could work with the WiFi receiver
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Ubuntu don’t have closed software, but only open and free. Ubuntu maintain consistency when it’s about fixing things.

Choice of package Ubuntu always wins

It’s not about which one is best but ubuntu is user friendly and effective

Amazing OS to work on - A mix of CUI and GUI

  • December 09, 2020
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
You can use it even on a Celeron Desktop and it works just fine. Faster and much more secure than Windows.
What do you dislike about the product?
It is really good to have a Linux based OS running both CUI and GUI however of all my colleagues, only some prefer a mix of Interfaces.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Easy to write code in. Much more secure than a Windows. Yeah it is somewhat hard to find all the applications for Ubuntu, however it does all that is necessary.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
- Only try to use Ubuntu if you are into Tech and are also Tech Savvy enough to get a hold of all the functionalities. Because there will be some things that you would need a Graphic User Interface for in case you are unable to learn commands.

Ubuntu - The first choice for Linux servers in production

  • December 08, 2020
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Regular Security Updates: Very frequently get software/tools security updates.

Community and support: Supported and maintained by a very large-sized community across the globe.

Upgrades: Flawless upgrades and updates to new versions or distribution. Even we are on old distribution, its still possible to upgrade to the latest one without losing the data.

Easy to manage: Very user friendly and easy to manage through CLI or GUI.

A large number of tools: A very large amount and variety of open source tools/software are developed to use over it. These are easily available in its Market place.
What do you dislike about the product?
Ubuntu doesn't support popular middlewares such as cPanel.

Plesk as well is not completely compatible/supported over Ubuntu. Though they have just rolled out their specific version for Ubuntu 20.04 LTS but still have a number of dependencies over specific libraries to make it fully functional.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
When it comes to problem-solving Ubuntu server as other Linux servers handle the log files very effectively. For anything, we just navigate to syslog, kernel.log, dmesg and auth logs for system and authentication-related troubleshooting.

Benefits: Stability, Robust and Secure operating system with timely updates. Whether you are a Desktop user or managing it through a command-line interface, it just requires a couple of commands to fully patch/update and upgrades it with not many hassles.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
When it comes to security and getting regular updates over your server, Ubuntu comes in first place to provide you all.

Its user friendly and easy to operate as compared to other server specific Linux distributions.

Wide variety of applications available are available which can be easily integrated with it.

Perfect Linux Server for production environment

  • December 07, 2020
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
While Window is not a best and popular operating system but in server community we can strongly rely on Ubuntu Server because of security and network setting. We can design our own server in ubuntu where we can configure service , web server and Database server. Sometime we are face some confidential issue regarding security so in that case ubuntu server has capability to provide security with help of different kind of packages
Online help in easy to find the package of any configuration or setup.
Ubuntu is easy to find new and straightforward update , especially for LTS.

Easy to manage the update -getting very frequently new updates and patches
Easy to mange through CLI or GUI and last number of software and tool available who help to overcome the problems or you can use it

.
What do you dislike about the product?
In my case is not easy to use for everyone ,i feel its very complicated to configure and setup the thing, but i never feel comfortable with ubuntu server.
Its very hard to install Other software and latest packages of ubuntu and configuration like samba server, configuration backup server.
If we compare with window server there is also available a lot of feature and provide more supportive GUI to reduce the time to configure backup, local or web server but i feel window server is not secure as compare to ubuntu that way i prefer to configure ubuntu for large or small organization.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
When you thing about security and update than first come in mind ubuntu is perfect for ours.
I use for web server for hosting my company application ,backup server and mange log file and use for python development.
Running smooth web service ,web application and python scripts.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Please choose latest release version and make sure that version is according to your needs if you are new better get old version so you will get a lot of help.

Best Free OS with really BIG community

  • December 05, 2020
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Free software with a very big community will be helpful, you face the problem somebody out there has faced the problem, do not face a problem with popular app/software.
What do you dislike about the product?
don't trust the newest version in my experience we have always face a big problem such as a blank screen, that is normal because ubuntu is not an exclusive OS to the particular device so much porting needs to be done.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
fast os, safer system for deploying tech to the public, support from another big app/software company
Recommendations to others considering the product:
if you are a developer need something free and fast, I think ubuntu is cover so much edge in software development if you want something much simpler go Mac instead. Do you hate terminal? if you nerd you don't just try it and trial and error.
