What do you like best about the product?
You don't have to worry about the virus and is pretty user friendly with its huge community support.
And best part is completely free, so never have to worry about the licenses.
What do you dislike about the product?
You will not be able to run some popular software like Photoshop and Word and a lot of your customers clients would be using the same.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We have mostly set up our servers running LAMP, ROR, nginx, mongodb , dotnet core on ubuntu and its easily maintainable and less resource hungry.

    Computer Software

Best OS for developers

  • November 02, 2020
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
The ease at which new programs can be installed. Ability to write programs using the text editors and renaming those with appropriate extensions. In comparison with other OS-particularly Windows- this is a massive advantage and makes the tasks easier for the developers. Resolving paths and other necessary minor things needed to build applications are also easier.
What do you dislike about the product?
I do not like the built-in backgrounds. The default text editors can be also improved. Particularly gedit can be provided with more default themes and designs.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I use Ubuntu for developing applications for my research in configurable systems. Since my work relies on making kernel level changes, Ubuntu is the best OS for me.

Ubiquitous for a reason

What do you like best about the product?
The nearly endless customization options that exist for Linux distros in general is just mind-blowing. Coming from Windows, it was very much like switching from an iPhone to Android. Similar but not at all the same.
What do you dislike about the product?
I do wish that it were easier to set up things to run automatically, you're in full control of your system (which is amazing), but at the same time...YOU are in full control (meaning you have to do everything). I also wish it were possible to dial back on the security and incessant password entering and re-entering. Most people are using Ubuntu as a single user on a personal computer, so all the levels of user permissions and whatnot are just unnecessary.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I switched to Ubuntu from a lifetime on Windows mainly to see what all the fuss was about. People either love linux, or they hate it, and I just wanted to give it a go. I still haven't switched back to windows, and I've learned SO MUCH about how computers and software work just by hacking away and tweaking my system to my liking.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Be ready to dig in to obscure forum posts and spending many many hours googling solutions to your problems or questions. Good news is that there are a million resources out there to help. Bad news is...that also means that there are a million different answers to the same problem, and none of them are wrong.
