Ubuntu: The Go-To Linux Distro for Everyday Use and Development

  • August 01, 2025
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I like that Ubuntu was easy for me to set up, even as someone who isn’t a Linux pro. My laptop worked right away without extra drivers, and I can usually find any software I need in the repositories. It’s reliable for my daily use, from coding to browsing, and the community support has been great whenever I had questions.
What do you dislike about the product?
The only downside for me is that troubleshooting rare hardware or software issues can take longer than I’d like, and sometimes the docs don’t fully cover my situation.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Ubuntu gives me a stable, user-friendly system where I can develop, automate tasks, and get support easily. It saves me time and makes my work more efficient.

What do you like best about the product?
The performance. Developer-Friendly
Comes with a huge package ecosystem (apt is solid and well-maintained).

Great support for Docker, Node.js, Python, and most dev tools.

WSL support makes it the default Linux experience for Windows users too
What do you dislike about the product?
Snap Packaging System
Slow startup times for Snap apps (e.g., VS Code, Chromium).

Snaps are sandboxed, which can break integrations (e.g., accessing .bashrc, using certain fonts).

Forced adoption — e.g., Firefox is only available as a Snap in recent versions, which frustrates some users.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Problem: Installing and maintaining a Linux system is hard for non-experts

What do you like best about the product?
Ubuntu stands out for it's ease of use, especially for a linux-based OS. The installation process is smooth and beginner-frendlly, with a clean and inuitive UI via the GNOME desktop. Ilove how easy it is to set up development environments thanks to APT and Snap packages the wide community support and regular updates make it feel reliable and secure ease of integration is another major plus it works semalessly woth tools like Docker, Git, Python and othe dev stacks whether I use it daily for programming or occasional system testing Ubuntu never fails to deliver I also appreciate that the syster remains ligtweight while offering all the features I need it;s a complete free solution that beats many paid alternatives in terms of flexibility and preformance even though it's afree Open-source OS the level of help available through forums official documentation and platform like ask Ubuntu or slack overflow is outstanding
What do you dislike about the product?
While Ubuntu is very user-frendly for a Linux distribution some software and driver compatibility issues still arise especially with proprietary hardware like certain Wi-Fi chips or GPUs. Occasionally update or kernel upgrades can break existing setups if you're not careful which can be frustrating for less technical users also the snap package system while usefull can feel slower compared to traditional APT package and adds some bloat it's not a dealbreaker but it's something to be aware of
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Ubuntu solves the problem of finding a free stable and secure OS that's sutable for both everyday use software development it provides a reliable environment for programming running servers or even just browsing and office tasks all without the cost of commercial OS licenses
