Stable OS and suitable for low-end devices

  • May 24, 2023
  • Review provided by PeerSpot

What is our primary use case?

I use Ubuntu Linux as my primary operating system on my personal device.

What is most valuable?

Firstly, it's open source, and secondly, I like its computation speed compared to Windows and other similar features.

What needs improvement?

Sometimes certain tasks are challenging due to issues with the command-line interface. Users who prefer Windows may find it difficult to transition to Linux. So, I believe Linux could enhance its user interface to make it more user-friendly for a wider range of users.

Therefore, I suggest improving the user interface.

In additional features, I would like to add an additional software store alongside the existing one. Similar to the Microsoft Store, it offers a wide range of software options.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using it since 2016. I am using version 22.0 LTS.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Ubuntu Linux have two types of releases. The first one is LTS (Long Term Support), and they also release short-term support versions every nine months. I mostly prefer the LTS version because they are the most stable.

How are customer service and support?

I have utilized community forums for VMware-related queries.

How was the initial setup?

For the general public, I don't think it's easy because most OS installations are typically handled by engineers or service center guys. So, for non-technical users, it's similar to installing Windows or any other operating system.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Ubuntu Linux is free for personal use, including business use. However, if you require enterprise-level support from their team, you need to pay a subscription fee. Ubuntu offers custom pricing that may vary based on the business requirements.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

When I started using it initially, it had better accessibility and speed. I have a low-end laptop with an AMD processor that doesn't work well with Windows. So, I chose Ubuntu Linux as it works efficiently on that device too.

What other advice do I have?

You should give Ubuntu Linux a try. I would give it a ten. It's the best, in my opinion.

What do you like best about the product?
Is a great way to switch between Linux and Windows, keeping the advantages of both. It provides a useful way to do command-line tasks as well as run a Linux environment when needed.
What do you dislike about the product?
It can have some issues with crashing/running forever, with little way to know exactly what's going on.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It solves the problem of working in an environment where I need access to tools only available in Linux/MacOS as a Windows user. As someone who doesn't like using a command line file system I also like being able to move things directly from Windows using the UI.

What do you like best about the product?
As a Linux based Operating system, I get a lot of flexibility in using commands to get most of the things done. Easier to download softwares, debug, automate the tasks.
What do you dislike about the product?
Lags a bit on the graphical designs in camparision with windows, may not be easy for lame man to use.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Ubuntu is an open source Linux based operating. Since it's open source, it can be installed free of cost on production servers in comparison to other paid alternatives. Also, we could use the same OS from development till production avoiding discrepancies in the code behaviour due to change in OS

Ubuntu OS: A Powerful and User-Friendly Operating System

  • May 12, 2023
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I can declare with confidence that Ubuntu is one of the most impressive and user-friendly operating systems out there because I've used it for a very long time. The simplicity of Ubuntu's procedure for installation is one of its best qualities. The procedure is simple, and the operating system has an intuitive interface that makes setup easier. Even those who are unfamiliar with Linux-based computers may handle the installation process with ease and have Ubuntu up and running in no time.

I appreciated Ubuntu's speed, adaptability, and command line capability the best as a software developer. One of the fastest and most dependable operating systems, Ubuntu can function flawlessly even with relatively basic hardware setups. Ubuntu operates well on a variety of platforms, including desktops, laptops, and servers, thanks to its broad hardware compatibility. Cross-platform compatibility is ensured by the ability of programmers to create and test their applications on many hardware setups.
What do you dislike about the product?
Although Ubuntu is a well-liked and respected operating system, there are a few drawbacks that users should be aware of. For people used to other operating systems like Windows or macOS, Ubuntu, like any Linux-based operating system, may require some getting used to. For people unfamiliar with Linux, learning how to use command-line tools and navigate the terminal may take some initial effort. Although Ubuntu has a sizable software library and supports a wide range of programs, some proprietary software or specialized industry-specific tools might not be entirely compatible with Ubuntu or have limited availability. Also, ubuntu does not support any high graphics-related stuff so for graphics designers and gamers this OS is no go.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I have to create a wide variety of computer software and mobile applications in my capacity as a developer. Even though I have a laptop with a modest configuration, Ubuntu is greatly assisting me in finishing my responsibilities. By using Ubuntu as my main operating system, I can manage and build up cloud linux servers with ease, allowing me to deliver applications and websites with zero downtime.

Stable and reliable.

  • May 05, 2023
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
It is similar to base Debian, so almost anything will run on it. Its advantage over regular Debian is the availability of quality, paid remote support from Canonical.
What do you dislike about the product?
Snap packages can be a bit annoying. I would like it if they weren't installed by default when running sudo apt install and instead limited only to the snap command.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I need a stable base to run a myriad of applications. Ubuntu Server allows me to do this without having to worry about stability. I can also have peace of mind that if something goes wrong, Canonical can help.

  • May 04, 2023
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
It is open source and is not struck with viruses like windows
What do you dislike about the product?
There are a lot fewer users than Windows or Mac, so sometimes issues with compatibility may arise
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Ubuntu is excellent for System Administration. I am pleased that the issue of viruses is scarce, and since it is light, the performance is great.
