Excellent free desktop OS for free

  • April 18, 2023
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Free open-source desktop for no cost. Useful for repurposing an old computer or laptop and giving it more life. Typically Ubuntu requires less resources than a full Windows install so its great to use on older machines.
What do you dislike about the product?
Learning linux can be a bit of a challenge, software that runs on a Linux system can be more difficult to find for certain things. If you are not the primary user it can be challenging to get Windows or Mac users to adopt something new.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
When I need to install software on a machine but want to isolate it from the rest of the computer I will create an Ubuntu Virtual Machine to host the software.

Easy enough to switch, steadily improving

  • April 18, 2023
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
It's fairly intuitive coming over from other OS GUIs (OSX, Windows) and doesn't require a lot of time to get accustomed to while still benefiting from being on Linux for its use in coding/development.
What do you dislike about the product?
In my experience, there's been a lot of improvement over time, but it can be prone to slowdowns and occasional crashes. Some small but expected things, like browser dark mode don't have full support.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
GUI for Linux, easier app updates etc.

Ubuntu the best flavor distribution I ever used.

  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Based on the Linux and Unix-like Debian systems, Ubuntu is a free and open-source operating system created by Canonical Ltd.
Like other significant distributions, Canonical and Ubuntu have contributed to several initiatives that support their long-term.
It runs on desktop computers, server or cloud platforms, and IoTs. It is available in three editions: Desktop, Server, and Core. Keep in mind that it's a well-liked OS for cloud computing.
Operating System for personal and Business Computers that is free. Works on a Variety of Hardware or Software. Very customisable and user-friendly.
What do you dislike about the product?
One of its main drawbacks is the limited selection of programmes available with Ubuntu. Although the OS and some apps are free to download, Windows and macOS's equivalents are superior.
Compatibility issues between software and hardware.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Many devices, including Windows and Mac computers, can have the OS installed. Additionally, it functions on network servers, robotics, IoT device, emulated or virtualised computing environments, as well as in containers or virtual machines.

  • April 18, 2023
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Ubuntu Linux is one of the most useful, powerful, easy and fast OS I've ever used, i'll just mention that sometimes community of Ubuntu don't include all issues and Ubuntu should consider, otherwise everything is beyond perfect
What do you dislike about the product?
No support
Kernal and software issue references are not always available, the release of versions takes time and there's no docs for all commands, finally it freezes sometimes and nothing solve this except for restarting OS
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Ubuntu solve application license issues, as its free, solves easy updating and upgrading, easy and many packages that are useful , GUI as GUI in Ubuntu is better, more secure

What do you like best about the product?
Ubuntu is a very stable Linux distribution and it stands out for its user-friendliness; it is secure and has a wide range of software available. It is totally free, straightforward to install, and it's very customizable and very responsive.
What do you dislike about the product?
For a new user, Ubuntu can be complicated to get familiar with installing soft-wares and using command line. If you are coming from Windows, most apps are unavailable; of course, there are alternatives, but I wish I could use the same apps I use on Windows.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Ubuntu Desktop being a free OS, makes it an attractive option for individuals and organizations looking to cut costs and it is compatible with a wide range of hardware and software. These benefits have a significant impact on users, including reduced costs, increased productivity, improved security, and a better overall user experience.

Easier to manage

  • April 18, 2023
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Most of installations run on a single line or few lines in the terminal. And because it's not hard to find typical commands to run things, I can just search then copy paste the commands that I want right away.
What do you dislike about the product?
Despite I love running commands on terminals, I also prefer to do certain stuff using GUI. But some applications are not available or have limited features in Ubuntu.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I use it primarily for work to process the data that I have using multiple programs through the command lines on the terminal.
