A powerful multifaceted tax software that packs a punch
What do you like best about the product?
Vertex removes the major headaches for compliance and keeps the client updated on rates and reporting.
What do you dislike about the product?
Vertex should make the tax assist rules more user friendly.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We use Vertex for sales and use taxes, in addition to Returns on Demand. These products reduce the amount of post close compliance calculations and reporting.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
I would highly recommend Vertex to anyone needing multiple tax solutions in one package.
Support not as expected.
What do you like best about the product?
The developers for the GP connector seem to be very knowledgeable and more helpful once we can obtain connection.
What do you dislike about the product?
Customer support is sometimes non-responsive and difficult to provide solutions. We find errors in the calculation rules and problems with our reports and returns and many tickets have been submitted since May and still not resolution.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We became compliant in 29 additional states at one time. We appreciate having a tool to charge sales tax on our multiple transactions and we are not having to keep up with rates and jurisdictions within our accounting software.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Some things are really dynamic and slick about this application. The more knowledgeable you are about expected taxabilty rules you are familiar the better. The software is flat out wrong and in need of reprogramming in the more complicated states such as Colorado and Alabama. Customer support is slow to respond, often times ignoring tickets and even slower to make necessary updates.

What do you like best about the product?
Ray Thompson has been most helpful with all of the questions I've had surrounding the implementation process and monthly filings. I appreciate all of his efforts to make this transition as smooth as possible.
What do you dislike about the product?
Not initially having a specific representative to work with during the implementation process. I inherited sales tax for my company and had no resources readily available to assist me in getting jump started when the GO LIVE was weeks away.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
The problems I am resolving with Vertex, none. The benefits of Vertex is not having to manually file the returns each month for the various states.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
If you are looking for a software system to perform your monthly, quarterly, and annual filings with little to no growing pains during the implementation process - Vertex Cloud is the best choice! Having a system that is user friendly and a go-to person to ask questions has been the most helpful. Especially since I do not have a tax background. Learning taxes, different state guidelines,etc. has been a challenge but Vertex Cloud has made it less stressful.
Vertex has had performance issues
What do you like best about the product?
We like the ability to work view various reports, return generation, and the extra verification when adding exemptions certificates directly to the system.
What do you dislike about the product?
We have have several issues with outages that have caused us to lose the tax calculations on our invoicing jobs. We have also had time with authentication of a date entered for an exemption certificate has failed and locked us out of the system for days. While customer support was willing to help the process was slow and not estimated time frame of completion was given.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We now have a centralized practice for entering our exemption certificates. We have also realized some time savings with return filings, as we have gone from 14 states to 40 states over the last year.

What do you like best about the product?
I like the fixed, affordable pricing structure for the tax calculation service.
What do you dislike about the product?
I dislike the pricing involved with returns filing services. I feel as though it should just be a per returns fee and not a "start-up" and annual subscription fee. This structure is prohibiting us from moving forward with the service.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Setting up tax exempt customers, using the generated returns to file online effectively, and calculating tax appropriately for the ever changing States/jurisdictions
Set and Forget Sofware
What do you like best about the product?
Once set up - This will do everything for you. And if any issues come up just email them, they take care of it. This really saves up to 8 hours if not more of time calculating returns. Although this probably doesnt have a Return on Investment, it will help you sleep easy at night knowing that you are tax compliant and that the taxman will not come knocking at your door.
What do you dislike about the product?
Pricing is not scalable for our start-up Website.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
This solves our Tax Reporting and item configuration. Which is a real headache for websites that sell everywhere
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Consult with tax professional for every different type of item that is available to on your website
My boss picked Vertex because it cost less than the other guys.
What do you like best about the product?
It generates pdf copies of tax returns.
What do you dislike about the product?
Getting useful information from a teenager is easier than getting useful information from Vertex.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Vertex is creating problems for me to solve. The benefit is job security.

What do you like best about the product?
It is easy to connect to and it is very user friendly. I like that we can store exemption certificates as well.
What do you dislike about the product?
I have not used the software in the production environment as of yet since my company is still implementing it.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
The rates issues we have with the current series and the exemption certificate portal.

It allows us to receive automatic updates each month and removed the requirement to have hardware in our network to host the solution

Nothing so far, it is too early to tell.

Receiving real time tax law changes and not having to manually maintain product taxability settings

What do you like best about the product?
The UI I like the best. It makes the system easy to use and not intimidating to people who aren't the best with sales tax.
What do you dislike about the product?
Importing adjustments. The message type when choosing the the message type will change when updating the form I think so sometimes I will have to upload an adjustment file twice.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Vertex helped us with being able to have the customers exemption viewable on the customer in NetSuite. This is important because it ties directly into Vertex so that it is not just a random extra field that eventually doesn't get updated.
