For me, some things are rigid and difficult to adapt to fit perfect the business needs
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Business process that the company have. We can generate this kind of tools fast
Appian is a best low-code automation platform where most of the business problems can be addressed
What do you like best about the product?
The list of OOTB features provided to ease development work and gives enrichment to the business processes. The ability to include AI/ML/RPA has brought in a hyper-automation capability which reduces the manual errors in the business processes and increases the accuracy of the outcome. Overall the efficiency & productivity of the business increases. It also provides functionality to extend Appian by adding custom plug-ins to the platform(after a review by Appian)
What do you dislike about the product?
Not all products provide all the features which a user can wish for. Same way, Appian also has some restrictions on its OOTB functionality & some UX constraints. We have to write custom plug-ins/components for features that we need to bring into Appian.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
As a BPM tool, Appian has helped our organization in automating business processes starting from onboarding a user to handling the request from the user to each and every department within the organization. It has also provided features to extract reports on the user activity which helps in precise tracking of an user's/departments productivity/efficiency. One main problem that has been solved by Appian is maintaining the historical records with a specific set of security rules defined by the business - For example, my historical leave requests should be visible to me and my manager only.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
If you're looking for a short-time application release with guaranteed ROI, then Appian is the best fit for it.
Application Architect
What do you like best about the product?
Flexibility to do what I need to do to get things done.
What do you dislike about the product?
There is a learning curve, and hard to know what to do, but it can be done.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We are automating the onboarding of new employees. We have codified manual processes and are able to visualize things that were previously tribal knowledge.
One app can do so much
What do you like best about the product?
The ease of use. The modelling flow chart to model process flow diagrammatically instead having to write line after line after line of code. I like how you can pretty much create any process type application for so many industries. I can see it being used in totally different industries from healthcare to education to inventory type systems.
What do you dislike about the product?
The one downside is that I have to learn a little bit of coding. The SAIL language is not too bad to learn, but it's a little confusing for non programmers. I don't like some of the restrictions put on the software, like only being able to have 5 menus on a webpage. But with a little creativity, I'm sure people will find workarounds.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I wasn't solving a problem with Appian. I was sent to a week long developer fundamentals class taught by Gabriel Salas. In that class we solved a problem for a car rental system. this system included maintenance scheduling, email notification, task assignment, process flow modelling, decision tree making. There was also another app that we used as a demo for a class training resource site and a doctors office, that is populated with doctors, nurses, prescription medication and patients. Patients will get automated e-mail notifications for appointments and they have their own portal so that they can set up an appointment time, pick the doctor they want and fill in form for their own diagnosis.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
For non-coders, business people, they can help developers model the business processes in the same project or app. This does lift the burden a little bit off the developers. It is also suitable for performing the agile methodology with dev-ops, which seems to be the industry standard in rolling out software applications. It also has a robotics and automation component to it but we didn't demo it. Considering the competitors out there like pega, appian is very similar and the ease of use is quite good.
Flexible platform with unbeatable time-to-market.
What do you like best about the product?
Your imagination is the only real limitation of what you can achieve.
What do you dislike about the product?
License model pricing structure not suitable for incremental growth.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Manual workflows and audit requirements.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
If you have a budget and robust managerial support you should be set. If you don't, you may struggle with building a satisfactory case from an ROI perspective. In most cases, in order to derive real value, your use case need to touch many employees, each employee require a user license to access Appian (see above comment about pricing structure).
Critical Technology for your Digital Transformation
What do you like best about the product?
Appian is a low code, fully configurable, and saleable platform to automate even your most complex workflows. With knowledgeable industry professional consultants, you can confidently partner with Appian to roll-out the platform to your organization.
What do you dislike about the product?
Important to understand it is not a no-code platform. They advertise as low-code so you still need your internal IT Team involved in your roll-out. This makes the platform highly configurable, scalable, and secure as a result.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Appian is streamlining many critical front and back-office functions including Client Onboarding.
A best BPM tool I've used so far!
What do you like best about the product?
The ease of designing the business processes and then simply configuring them to make it work is the best thing I can say. Community is very rich and helpful. There's everything documented properly and it's very easy to pick Appian as a new developer. I started with the development last year and now, I play a vital role in my team. All thanks to Appian!
What do you dislike about the product?
I've got just one word for this: NOTHING!
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
As far as our project is concerned, we have automated the complete employee onboarding process (from filling forms to assigning project) by using Appian. Our client is so happy with the solution, they are extending the support to many services and recommending Appian to others too! I think, designing and programming ease is the few of many benefits that I can list out of Appian.
