Great Product, weird license model
What do you like best about the product?
Appian, the platform, is a great product. It's incredibly extendable and configurable, and easy to tailor to your customers needs. The recent releases have greatly improved Appians capability, and I look forward to what they're going to release next. The recent focus on product sales (as in, selling from a pre built Appian app, as opposed to selling a scratch build) makes it easier to hook new clients with impressive interfaces and capabilities with less effort on the dev team.
What do you dislike about the product?
I cannot explain their licensing cost in a easy and succinct way. It's cost per user, unless it's not. It's X price, unless you want to use the new app they're marketing. In addition, it can be difficult to develop and test custom plugins and components. While that is a rarer use case, it can still come up. I also wish Appian made more product/app tools available to partners, like the solutions hub.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Appian's low code platform makes it easy to take a customer's vision and make it reality. Or, at least as close as we can reasonably get. It allows for rapid iteration with a relatively light team of developers.
Faster time to go-live - clicks, not code.
What do you like best about the product?
Lots of horse power under the hood. Can deliver as much or as little complexity as needed. Very robust implementation ecosystem. New case management studio goes from low code to (almost) no code.
What do you dislike about the product?
There is a learning curve for sure. Low code on its own is not a panacea. Still need to have solid requirements and business strategy. Solutions can get very complicated if you end up stitching multiple 3rd party systems.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Rapid go to market - significantly cutting down development time and cost. Especially in case management use cases, where the emphasis is on workflows and automation.
Acquisition Solutions
What do you like best about the product?
Quick implementation, on the fly configuration changes, support from Appian experts.
What do you dislike about the product?
Cost of licenses that customers may not be able to easily budget for.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Providing solution for customer to sunset legacy contract writing system.
APPIAN is great but takes some time to get used too.
What do you like best about the product?
The documentation is really good and the APPIAN community is awesome and always willing to help. The application is easy to use and provides documentation inside the application itself. The deployment tool makes implementation easy.
What do you dislike about the product?
No formal source control like GIT this causes some delays in development when working in larger teams.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We were looking at replacing an old application that is essential to our day to day and wanted something that allows for agile developlment and looks modern.
Intuitive interface
What do you like best about the product?
Using the interface is easy to understand.
What do you dislike about the product?
Not everything is intuitive, things could be labeled a little more thoroughly.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Records management and business process
More than 5 years experience as an Appian Developer.
What do you like best about the product?
The fact that it's a powerful tool which allows to build several kinds of applications and workflows in short period of time. It's very user friendly and provides many features business needs. I like that it is low-code platform development and easy to learn as well.
What do you dislike about the product?
Not much but if document storage and management are improved it will be a great addition.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Appian has been solving many problems in my organization. We were able to transform from multiple legacy systems to Appian and the users experience using Appian have been great and very positive.
Great for bringing solutions to production FAST
What do you like best about the product?
For moderately complex and well defined business processes, Appian is great for both creating new applications as well as replacing legacy applications extremely quickly.
What do you dislike about the product?
Though I understand the reason for marketing it as much as they do, I wish it wasn't sold as a drag and drop "citizen developer" tool as much as it is.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It's giving us a central place to view data and manage our processes.
My experience with Appian
What do you like best about the product?
It allows you to build very customizable, secure, polished apps with very few developers incredibly quickly. Easy integrations, many out of the box features.
What do you dislike about the product?
Sometimes the components are a bit limiting -- so you have to get creative if there is something appian doesn't offer out of the box
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Appian is able to quickly setup web apps and offers a large base of support for developers to deliver great products.
